Can I get one more confirmation that the Alien Number is infact, the Registration Number on your Immigrant Visa. Anyone?

Hi,,

The alien # A# is the registration # on the Visa. It was also mentioned on the biograpgic data sheet attached to the brown envelope.

this is 100% accurate information.

Guys--I have another question, if y'all could help me out. Like I said, I should have my unrestricted SSN by this week end. However, there's still no sign of a 'Welcome Letter' (USCIS told me to call them back if 30 days since POE had passed) or a GC. I have several job interviews lined up over the next two weeks. Assuming everything goes well and I get hired, when can I start working? What documents will be enough to prove work authorization? Can I start working with the SS card and the stamp in my passport?

Sachinky, you're a legal "permanent resident" you don't need any single extra paper work to prove you're work authorized!

The hospital I will start my work at asked me to go to website called "i-9 express" that checks non-US citizens work eligibility and it is linked some how with USCIS.

If your employer is registered in this website, they will provide you with a code that will let you login and put your info.

Anyway, the website shows that documents required to show work eligibilty is/are:

List A: (Only one of the following is required):

Form I-551 Permanent Resident Card or Alien Registration Receipt Card

Foriegn Passport with I-551 Stamp or Printed Notation on Machine-readaible Visa <------ What we all have

OR if documents in List (A) are not available

you are required one item from BOTH List B & C

List B:

Driver's License or State ID

ID issued by federal state

School ID with Photo

Voter's registration Card

Canadian Driver's License ...etc

List C:

Social Secutiry Account Number with Work Auhtorization

Receipt for lost, stolen, damaged SS card !

So, you may not given re-apply fro SSN if you already have one!

And on the form there's a big warning notifications that says:

ANTI-DISCRIMINATION NOTICE: It is illegal to discriminate against work-authorized individuals. Employers CANNOT specify which document(s) they will accept from an employee. The refusal to hire an individual because the documents have a future expiration date may also constitute illegal discrimination.

Take Care,

Me too. I called USCIS today (Day 30 since POE) -- she asked for my A# and said I wasn't even in the system yet. ####### is up with that? Does that mean Chicago hasn't even sent them the paperwork yet? She said to call back in another week or two.

I also called the Social Security Office since it's been 14 days since I applied for the SS card and haven't received it yet. They said it should have come in 7-10 days and that they will have to 're-input' it on Monday again.

Is there a link b/w the two--I guess the SSA has to verify the A# with DHS, and now if USCIS has no record of me in the system, they can't issue the card either?

ARGH. Is there anything I can do or should be doing? Apart wait and be on hold? Any thoughts?

We finally went ahead and applied for our SSN last Friday. They also said it takes 7-10 days to receive the SSN in mail. They did not ask for our A# and I even voluntered to provide the number and they said it was not necessary. No now just waiting for the card.

So, we went to the Social security office last week (Wednesday) after hubby's POE on Monday. The office said he should receive his SSN by July 5, but he's not in the system yet. Should we just wait till July 5, or should we double check with the Social Security office with his A# to make sure he's in the system? Hubby is getting a little bored already and really want to start working (so that he can help, as I'm working 2 jobs 80 hours a week now). HE doesn't want to apply for job now until we know his SSN just in case it would take a long time...

Hope every one got their welcome letters and SSN soon!!

Probably best to wait a week or two so that all the 'systems sync up.'

I have NOTHING so far. I called USCIS and they said 'card production has definitely NOT been ordered.' So no welcome letter.I feel an INFOPass coming on. I'm so sick and frustrated of this entire process.

Still waiting for my SS card. Will call again at the end of this week.

Tina received her GC today in the mail. It was wonderful. Let's see, that would be 53 days since POE give or take. I hope your Welcome letter comes soon. It's funny, the GC comes in a blank white envelope. Don't throw it away, it's not junk mail. :D
