Just the basic facts about your case and given that it's New Delhi (which is a high-fraud Embassy unlike Mumbai or Chennai in India) is enough to warrant an AP.

Just exactly what do you mean by this? The basic facts about my case.. please enlighten me.. what red flags would there have been?

Just the same stuff I mentioned earlier in a NVC thread and that you should be prepared for a AP. I'm not sure but I think you met him online, yes? You're a white American woman. He's an Indian guy. You have three kids from a previous relationship. I don't mean to sound callous or blunt -- but it's New Delhi, like I said. If you read through previous threads, you'll notice other people with similar situations went through much harsher or even humiliating interviews. The fact that you had a positive interview is a good thing! I'm guessing your presence had a lot to do with that. I even remember Hobo saying something to you about being prepared for an AP since it's N. Delhi even before the May interviews began.

It's not common but a couple of VJ members have reported as having being told they'd been approved verbally but when it was time to pick up their visa and passport, the Embassy informed them they'd been put in AP. Which is a horrible situation to be in and I can't imagine the anxiety and anguish you must be going through. Keep up the enquiries and the fact that they kept his passport should be a good sign!

I can't quite tell if you're being sarcastic or not but I'm not in the business of sugar-coating words, hun, mostly because that is never helpful to anyone, to be honest. I remember telling you sometime back in April, that in my estimation, given that you're going through New Delhi and some of the salient facts I mentioned previously, that it would be an AP and that you should be mentally prepared for it. Here's the link to that particular comment: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/248319-nvc-april-2010-edition/page__st__1800__p__3865469__hl__DELHI__fromsearch__1entry3865469. It's post# 1805. Hobo reiterates it on post# 1829.

If you read through all the Delhi interview reviews, you'll see that what I was trying to do -- without sounding like a Negative Nancy (or a Debbie Downer, if you will) -- was to help you by letting you know that an AP is virtually guaranteed in such cases. Like I said, New Delhi is a much more high-fraud Embassy than the Consulates in Mumbai or Chennai.

Of course, it sucks to be in AP after you were explicitly told you were approved, and I don't blame you for being upset, but this only goes to show that the buck doesn't stop until you actually cross at POE.

Good luck and keep us posted.

ok I just read the whole thread, but Mel, I hate to admit it but Sachi's right and I also kinda had a sneaking suspicion about that this could happen, except i figured it would happen at the interview stage, not post-interview! I thought you guys would have gotten grilled in person, not after-the approval. In any case, from what folks are saying, its a good sign that they kept his passport and it likely is just a name check. Delhi is a very high fraud embassy as sachi pointed out; I know there were quite a few nightmarish stories about folks getting rejected outright on VJ. in all likelihood you'll be just fine, but yes the waiting is hell. no need to iterate that one, since we've all know what that's like. just will tell you that we'll keep you in our prayers and wish you the very best. you've come this far; no way you'll not succeed now!

I think it's horrible that people have to go through this just because they've met online. Meeting people online is a normal thing these days. When I was in the States visiting my husband, I've seen that internet is a #1 place where people meet other people... does that make it not real or less real? No!

Oct 2008 - met in Tacoma, Wa

Jan 2009 - engaged

Nov 03, 2009 - got married in Croatia

Jan 2010 - I-130 filed

Jan 2010 - pregnant (expecting our first baby in Sep)

Jan 2010 - NOA1 received

Apr 2010 - NOA2 received - APPROVED

Apr 2010 - got NVC case number

Apr 2010 - DS3032 sent and accepted

May 2010 - AOS & IV Bills received

May 2010 - AOS & IV Bill paid

Jun 2010 - all documents sent to NVC

Jun 16, 2010 - NVC received all of our documents (according to the AVR)

Jun 28, 2010 - NVC sent us a RFE

Jun 30, 2010 - received the checklist from the NVC via email

Jul 01, 2010 - sent the corrected I-864 form back to NVC

Jul 12, 2010 - NVC has received the checklist letter response

Jul 21, 2010 - got SIF, case expedited cause of pregnancy, all the paperwork sent to the US embassy in Zagreb

Jul 26, 2010 - medical

Jul 27, 2010 - interview - APPROVED!

I dont think that it has to do with us meeting online.. I think it is because I am a white american female that is divorced with kids... and my Hubby had never been married before... so it makes red flags come up when applying for a visa, since it is kinda against his "culture" to have married me in the first place.. All the US is trying to do is make sure that he isnt scamming me, or that he isnt some member of some covert terriorist group  Woot Woot...<--- this is me trying to stay positive... :P

exactly - me and my wife also met online on an indian matrimonial website, so its not the online thing. as you said, its to see if the 2 of you make sense as a couple. unfortunately, you put it the right way - it is somewhat un-"Indian" (especially in India itself; outside India, doesnt matter) for a never-married male to marry a foreign woman who is divorced (which in itself is not bad) with 3 kids (that's the red flagger). They might be thinking - why does this guy want to get into a situation with so much "baggage" (as they percieve it); something must be wrong (sorry to put it so bluntly Mel  )...In my wife's and my cases, even though we'd only been married only 9 1/2 months, we're both Indian, come from similar backgrounds (south Indian), speak the same languages etc etc, so no red flags there...

Anyway, Mel, you've got the right attitude. I think you'll be fine, b/c if it was that bad, they would've rejected you outright and not even granted you an interview, or at least RFE'd the hell out of you in the USCIS and NVC stages. they didnt. so just be a little while longer (although we all know how that "little while" drags on and becomes the death of you)...
