I-129f Packaging question!

So..

We're currently in the process of putting together all the information, documents, and forms for the K1 fiancé visa and we had a question.

Is it okay to put everything in a binder and have it organized that way?

We have all of the paperwork in there, with separators and such.. However I haven't heard of anyone else using this method.

What do you think?

yes binder is fine as long as it is a simple binder for them to open and close easily I sent mine in a three ring binder back in April.. So you should be good I also had separators in there as well so to answer your question yes you can send your documents in a binder.....GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I did the two hole punch with ACCO fasteners sice I was told that's what they use to file things...

it worked, but so has most other methods

I would follow Bernie's advice rather than use a binder;

they will only throw it away and punch holes in the

top for putting in their folder.

I didn't bother to punch holes, but I did make sure

all pages were securely fastened together with a

large spring clip.

I used an ordinary manila folder and the USPS.

Send it any way that makes sense to you but bear in mind that they will take it apart and throw away the binder and anything else the see no need for, then build a government file in their own style. I suggest you stack the papers in the order they are listed in your cover letter, then secure them with a paper clip or binder clip. They won't be cussing you that way when they deal with your binder.

I just used paperclips and a cover letter

they will use 2 holes at the top when they file it in their office

I would caution against using a binder.

Check out the Assembly Tips. It says the following:

Note 6: In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:

a. Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.

b. Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.

c. The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.

d. Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.

e. Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required (Forms I-94, Labor certifications, etc). Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time or money on super special packaging. As already mentioned, they're going to dissect your package and re-arrange it how they see fit.

With that said, I am sure they appreciate if it is well organized. For ours, I did the two-hole ACCO fastener method mentioned above, and I also used clips to keep each section together. Lastly, I bound the whole package together with document (rubber) bands, both directions. This way, nothing would slip out. The application was too fat to use any kind of "clip" to hold together.

When my fiancee had her interview in Guangzhou, she took an exact copy of the original application with her, and the consular officer seemed impressed by the way the materials were organized. He asked about who arranged it while he was examining some of the evidence she'd brought with her.

My understanding is that USCIS has people who assemble the file long before the adjudicator even looks at it, so it will be in whatever their standard method is by the time it gets looked at. They do mention the two-hole method is appreciated on their website somewhere though. I recall seeing that back when I was in the midst of all that.

Like Bernie said would be good, but do what ever you feel makes you most comfortable, they will throw away the binder, but if that is what makes you comfortable do it, and in order is the best way it makes it look much more professional. Good luck! Jerome

I actually went to Wal-mart and just bought those cheap clip report binders. This was before I found out they discarded them upon receiving. But, I still would have bought them. It helped me to stay organized and verify I had everything I needed (no RFE's). I even re-verified I had everything while waiting at the post office line a few times.

So, do whatever makes you feel comfortable and less stressed...if thats putting all of the papers in one huge stack, then go for it! =) In the end USCIS doesn't care...

Yes but your 3-ring binder didn't speed the process!

Paper clips and binder clips holding items in the order listed on the cover letter (as pushbrk suggeted) are adequate. Substance is way more important than form for the I-129F submission.
