I don't see why it wouldn't be recognized, but depending on the field that you want to go into, an MBA from the US may get you farther because many US companies may not know much about your program. Whether it is true or not, I think Americans tend to rate our university education above the education from other countries, with maybe the exception of a few universities in the UK. An MBA is not exactly like some other degrees that require some type of brush up on practices/laws or certification to be valid, like a JD or MD, although I am sure that there are certain things that you will not be taught there that you would be taught here because your MBA is probably preparing you for the Indian business world and not the business world of the US. Maybe you can contact the type of companies that you would like to work for to see what they think of an MBA from your university in India.

Edit: I would say though that an MBA from India certainly will not hurt and since the visa process is likely to take at least 6 more months or so, I personally would just finish the program...if in the future you feel that not having one from the US is hurting you, you can always go to school in the US.

This would be a great question for the accredidation office / registrar's office AT the university in India.

Please ask them, let us know what you find out ?

What college/university is the MBA at?

MBA accreditation can be a tricky subject. The main body in the US is AACSB ( http://www.aacsb.edu ) however although they do accredit MBAs from International schools, I do not think at this time they do any in India.

So long as the MBA is accredited by AICTE you should be able to get it "accepted" though be prepared to defend it somewhat if asked (unlikely).

My question is if you have an MBA or a BA from a foreign university is it up to the employer to judge? I mean let's say I work for HP for 5 years in a foreign country and move to the US and aply again to HP. Will they reject me just because my degree is not from the USA?

Not necessarily. My husband has a degree from a university in Ghana and his job accepted it. Also, he had his transcripts evaluated and was able to go to grad school, no problems.

Nope - they won't reject you because yer degree is not from the USA

HOWEVER - if your degree cannot get 'accredited' in the USA, the employer might reject it.

OTOH, having 5 years in an HP office overseas will count for something, if you were a 'direct-hire employee' with HP overseas. Some people, before 'moving' to USA, actually put in for job transfer, instead of just knocking at the door in USA, also handling accreditation in the 'other country', prior to the move. The HR department is useful - did you do anything with them, prior to moving ?

Good Luck, however it turns out !

They say why dont you check it out in US itself whether they will accept our education or no. As if i m gonna go there to check that.

But on a serious note for finding work in US with a foreign degree is not really a good idea. Majority of the response i got from other people(from various sources) was to send my transcripts of the first 2 semesters done here and finish the final MBA in US only.

That is so strange. It sounds like 'they' are hiding something from you, only want to make sure you pay your monies for tuition.

I have heard of this type of 'response' before - usually is good indication of a 'shady institution'. Look around, see if any students are paying extra monies for higher marks on their transcripts, as well.

Oh well - good luck, however it turns out.
