Hi everyone, I'm new here, but trying to get my mind around the DCF in Mexico for my Mexican husband. We are just starting the process. First, because my husband and I live in Chiapas, I want to file the I-130 by mail to Mexico City. Anyone that's filed the I-130 in Mexico City, how did you pay for the fee? Does the fee have to be included in the same packet or can it be sent separately by a bank-issued money order from my mother in the states?

Also, how many supporting documents are necessary for proving the marriage? Do they all have to be translated to English?

Thanks so much for this site and for any help!

Laurel

You should read this:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/242117-dcf-mexico/

You have to send the fee and all the required items with the Packet or you will get it right back.

I think the money order from the US might be better since they wouldn't take mine from HSBC, but your mother would have to send it to you so you can mail it with your Packet.

If you read the thread, you will know they didn't want any of my supporting evidence, just the documents I listed and the ones that are listed on the sheet specifically given out by Mexico City for DCFers.

Good luck and feel free to ask more questions if you have any!

April 19, 2010 - NOA1 (documents received at Mexico City Embassy)

April 20, 2010 - NOA2 (received notice April 28, 2010, mailed April 27)

May 3, 2010 - Packet 3 sent (received May 27, 2010)

May 9, 2010 - I emailed them using the inquiry form asking for my case number

May 17, 2010 - received case number and link to Packet 3 by email

May 18, 2010 - sent Packet 3 to Ciudad Juarez

May 28, 2010 - called Ciudad Juarez to see if we had an appointment yet, they said wait 6-8 weeks :(

May 30, 2010 - I return to the US

June 8, 2010 - called and found out appointment date

June 16, 2010 - received Packet 4

July 6, 2010 - interview - Approved!

July 7, 2010 - pick up visa at DHL and POE to activate

July 29, 2010 - welcome letter received

August 1, 2010 - my husband comes home to me

August 13, 2010 - received Green Card

September 28, 2010 - never received Social Security Card, had to apply for it, arrived Sept. 28

Thanks so much Lia792! My mother will be sending me a bank issued bank order soon so that we can mail our I-130 to Mexico City! This forum is so helpful.

Do you think I should include a copy of my husband's passport and U.S. visitor visa since our marriage cert. is from the U.S.?

Thanks so much for the help

For anyone filing I-130 in Mexico City, close to the embassy, CIBanco is where I got our Money Order and it was accepted by the embassy. The check came in English, from a New York Bank.

I struggled with finding this place since the Casa de Cambio Tiber is no longer. You need pesos to buy the US$ money order and make it payable to US Department of Homeland Security/ USCIS.

Just filed this morning and now we wait!

Hi Lauralbelle, Lia and Chuk...I´m new to the forum, but SO relieved to have found it. I hope by now you´ve all got your K3 visas figured out. I´m just starting the process! I´m living in Mérida with my wife (Yucateca) and can´t find ANY place in town to buy a Money Order...is my only real option to have a family member in the US send me one from there? There´s no problem with a US money order being valid in Mexico? Who does it need to be made out to...USCIS? Department of Homeland Security? I have many questions...but this issue of the money order is my primary headache at the time. Thanks for any help!!

Hey JosephDarnell!

We're actually working on a CR-1 Visa now - not the K-3. But regardless you have to find a place that will issue you a money order for the USCIS fee. Here's what I suggest. Look in Merida for places called Casa de Cambio. Should be a few there and they usually do US Money Orders. If not I would suggest going into Cancun or Campeche. There would surely be one there.

I had the cheque made out to: "USCIS/ Department of Homeland Security" - exactly like that.

Thanks so much for the reply and advice. We haven´t had any luck finding a place here in Mérida, I´m thinking I´m going to have my family send me one from a US bank in AZ and use that...hopefully there won´t be any problems. I was hoping to hear from the girl above in the forum that said she was planning on using one sent from the US....to see if there had been any issues.

Anyways, we can´t wait longer and we aren´t planning on going to Cancun anytime soon...so I think we´ll try the other route.

thanks so much!

Joseph

You won't have any problems if the cheque is from a US bank. Check out the DCF Mexico forum, many of people on there have done that. It's the banks here in Mexico that are a little sketchy. Good luck!
