Greetings,

I sent in my wife's self generated DS-230 last week and the real DS-230 came in the mail yesterday. In the big envelope, there was a single sheet insert called supplement to form OF - 169. This sheet contains a few specific clarifying things such as registering marriages, birth certificates etc.

If contained one item which said:

PASSPORTS: If you are married, your passport should be ammended to reflect your marriage.

Has anyone had to do this? It is *painful* to go to the passport office in India -- all the paperwork is on her maiden name...

Thanks,

KP

KP,

My wife's passport is, and will remain, in her maiden name. But it does identify her as a 'Mrs.'

(Also, she's not from India.)

I have one question: so now you have to send the OF-169 to your wife to sign it and then send it to NVC? Or you can answer it and send?

I just don´t understand what is this OF-169? Can it be self generated?

Sorry -- didn't mean to confuse the issue -- this OF-169 is NOT a form -- it is a sheet of information (almost like a checklist) and nothing needs to be signed or sent back. I was asking if anyone else was send this sheet and what did people do to address the "reflection of the marriage".

Are you referring to the NVC instructions as OF-169? Where does it say that it is OF-169? I have not seen it yet. You only needed to send DS 230 part I and passport's biographical information pages.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

No -- it was a sheet insert which came with the DS-230 and at the bottom right of the sheet said "Supplement to form OF-169". It also said a couple of things about the "Hindu Marriage Act" so I imagine it is being sent to people who have filed for India.

I see. It makes sense now. I did not get this page because it is not applicable to our case. Good luck.

If they are instructing that the passport be updated to reflect the marriage then that is what you should do. I can not help you in how this is done in India, but Im sure someone will.

You can find me on FBI

Lorelle -- agreed that is what I need to do. But "how" is the unknown for me still :-). The Passport Office in India is talking about a "new" passport with the new married name (which is diferent than the maiden name).

Has nobody else from India gotten this?

Sigh!!!

Please check to see if the old passport can be amended to reflect the married name. Call the Indian Embassy in USA. They might shed some light as well.
