Bump

Many years ago, I had a filipino co-worker who would make this delicious filipino-style spaghetti with hot dogs in it. Any pinays/pinoys out there have a good recipe for it?

i made it awhile ago and this is what I did...

I just fried up some onion, garlic and bell pepper.... and then added a tad bit of salt and pepper and soy sauce... then I added a can of sgetti sauce, some tomato paste, some banana ketchup, some tomato ketchup, a bit of brown sugar and a bit of grated cheese...and I added some cooked meatballs and the hotdogs to it... you could fry up some ground beef with the onion etc instead of using meatballs though

Thanks Marylin. Is there anything I can substitute in the place of banana ketchup?

you don't have to use it if you don't want to... if you want the sauce sweeter just add a little more sugar

I remember someone asking for zucchini recipes and I just saw both of these in a magazine.

Zucchini Muffins

50g zucchini, cut into chunks

1 apple, peeled and quartered

1 orange, halved

1 egg

75g butter, melted

300g self-raising flour

1/2t baking powder

1/2t cinnamon

100g golden caster sugar

handful of sultanas

1 tub of soft cheese mixed with 3T icing sugar, to make an icing

1. brush muffin tin with oil. heat oven to 190c (I think that's about 375f)

2. grate the zucchini and apple and put into a bowl. juice the orange and add to this.

3. add the egg and butter.

4. add the dry ingredients and mix until it's not lumpy.

5. bake 20-25 mins. add icing after they cool.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake

12oz self-raising flour

2oz cocoa powder

1t mixed spice (ummm...don't know what that is? allspice?)

6fl oz extra virgin olive oil

13oz golden caster sugar

3 eggs

2t vanilla

18fl oz grated zucchini (measure by volume in a measuring cup, about 2 medium zucchini)

5oz toasted hazelnut, roughly chopped

FOR THE ICING

7oz dark chocolate, chopped

3.5oz heavy cream

1. heat the oven to 180c (about 350f I think?)

2. combine the dry ingredients in one bowl

3. combine the wet ingredients with the zucchini in another bowl

4. fold the two together and then add in the chopped hazelnuts.

5. bake for 40-50 mins.

to make the icing, heat the cream and then stir in the chocolate until it melts.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Mixed spice, also called pudding spice, is a British blend of sweet spices, similar to pumpkin pie spice, an American blend of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger and allspice. Cinnamon is the dominant flavour.

  • 4 weeks later...

I found a great Amish bread recipe...possibly the best homemade bread I have ever had:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 cups bread flour

Directions

  • In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in yeast. Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam.
  • Mix salt and oil into the yeast. Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat. Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
  • Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes, and divide in half. Shape into loaves, and place into two well oiled 9x5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above pans.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes.

I only used 1/3 cup of white sugar, and it worked great! I used half for a loaf of bread, and half for cinnamon buns, due to a terrific craving I was having.

And this macaroni salad was excellent - had most of it the day I made it (about 4 hours after I made it), but it was WAY better the next day, it had mellowed a bit. I also added some cheddar cheese (small cubes) to it.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated carrot (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pimento peppers (optional)

Directions

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni, and cook until tender, about 8 minutes. Rinse under cold water and drain.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, mustard, salt and pepper. Stir in the onion, celery, green pepper, carrot, pimentos and macaroni. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving, but preferably overnight.

ok I have a super simple dessert recipe that I have made a few times... take a box of cake mix, mix in a 16 ounce can of pie filling, two eggs and a teaspoon of vanilla and either spoon it into a greased cake pan or make into muffins and cook at the time and temp it shows on the cake mix box...

I have made it using a chocolate cake mix and cherry pie filling and I have made it with a yellow cake mix and apple pie filling, I am not sure why but when I did the second one the muffins got a little sticky on top, they were still very yummy though...
