I wonder if you all realize that part of the "banned items" are cement and building supplies. Even if they went to the port in Ashdod, those very much needed supplies would not have been allowed through the land border to Gaza which is why they were attempting to break the blockade. It should also be noted that the blockade is against international treaties and is considered illegal by the UN.

the ship was in international waters at the time. the soldiers boarding that ship had no more right to be there than common pirates.

Of course there are other countries that have reserved the right to board ships in international waters including the US and China. Wasn't there something in the last year that gives the right to board North Korean vessels?

The new effort to intercept North Korean ships, and track them to their next port, where Washington will press for the inspections they refused at sea, is part of what the officials described as “vigorous enforcement” of the United Nations Security Council resolution approved Friday.

The planned American action stops just short of the forced inspections that North Korea has said that it would regard as an act of war.

there's really no such thing as self-defense when one's perpetrating a criminal act. if i attempt to rob someone and the would-be victim pulls a gun on me and uses it, i can't really whine about their show of force, can i?

the flailing about for various justifications for boarding the ship would be almost comical, if it weren't so tragically hideous that 19 people are now dead. everything from netanyahu claiming "self defense" to deputy foreign minister danny ayalon claiming the ship was somehow connected to "al qaeda". i wonder how far up his fat ####### he had to reach to come up with that kind of shite.

Well I've seen the video. Whatever you think of the blockade, the soldiers were definitely being attacked and acted in self defense unless the tape is fake.

The official report says they had pistols and paint ball guns, until there is a full investigation we won't know.
