My husband's family in Peru will give me free yarn, they own factories that produce yarn so next time I go I will be stocking up!

JEALOUS!!! If I had a line to free yarn I would be over the moon! Making stuff for other people is intensely satisfying. I'm making a baby blanket for TracyTN right now.luv.gif

Next up in my queue is this:

I certainly will! I just hope I get it done before Baby TN arrives! I'm training it down from Toronto to NYC in a couple of weeks -- that's a 14 hour ride so I hope I get a lot of it done then.

LOL If you drink enough coffee, can you speed knit? It will be like Fry on Futurama!

I wish. The pattern is complicated -- it has two techniques that were new to me: p2tbl (purl 2 through back loop) and k1b (knit one below). The k1b's are easy but the p2tbl's are a b!tch and uber-fiddly.

Here's another finished object I just loved making -- picture is a bit ####### but you'll get the gist:

It really makes a great tea cosy too -- very effective.

Hey, I love that tea cozy!

If you have a Michaels near you as well they sometimes offer classes in knitting and crocheting and such by local people. I see them offered here quite regularly.

When I used to travel by train from Chatham to Toronto for meetings I always brought my sewing with me as well and made several dresses that way. In movie theatres I would bring a lucet and make tape/lacing that I could use for lacing bodices and such. Your fingers get into the memory of the technique and it becomes so automatic you don't need to see to do it. Sitting in movie theatres, sitting around campfires, I would just work away on my lucet thread. I still often carry it with me in my purse to have something to do.

That is so cute, you did a great job on that! I guess there is some card in the ears to make them stay out correctly?

Can I join this thread? Purty purty please? My Mom has taught me twice to knit, but I keep dropping it then can't remember anything when I want to try again (like now when I have nothing but time blush.gif). I DO know how to sew pretty well, and plan on trying to find a decent secondhand machine here in Houston so I can get back into it. If I do succeed at replicating my genes (and Fred's too, I guess, but mostly mine) I want to save some money by making my own stuff.

That's really cool! Do you sell things you make too? Just curious.

I have seen Ravelry a tiny bit and think it looks fun, but I can't knit and I lost my crocheting skill. :( My mom has taught me how a couple of times during my life, but now I haven't attempted it in a few years and would need to relearn it yet again. I once crocheted my husband a scarf when we were separated and not even engaged yet I think.(yes he is from India but New Delhi has some chilly nights during winter! lol) I think that's the last thing I crocheted. :P I am on Etsy. I make jewelry and pillow/sewn things.

Ah, so many questions to answer! The tea cosy does not have any card in the ears -- they have very deliberate shaping and I sewed them onto the body in such a way that they just stick out. It's a super-easy pattern -- took me about six hours or so to complete. I don't sell anything but I so have an etsy shop reserved for cat toys should I ever want to sell them; I can pump those suckers out in 30 minutes for an easy pattern, an hour for more complicated ones with cables or whatnot. Stuff them with batting and organic catnip and hey ho, more cat toys. My cat is utterly spoilt.

Stitch-n-B!tch -- nothing like a knitting club to get you working and producing. I go to one in Pasadena every month, but I usually end up at one of my girfriends' apartments twice a week drinking wine and knitting as well, while we choose streaming Netflix movies on the basis of how hot the male protagonist/villain is and if we totally would do him. Tonight was Air Force One in honour of Memorial Day and I got very mad when Gary Oldman was killed at the end because I totally would have done him, even with that dodgy "Russian" accent.

Yes, yes! This can be the thread of all needlecraft, not just knitting and crocheting. All needlesmiths are welcome! Post your projects here so we can oooh and aaaah. Here's another one I made earlier -- pink fingerless gloves:

mitts.jpg

They are made out of gorgeous bubblegum pink baby alpaca and touching them is like kissing a sweet ickle lamb.

Errrr, I am totally blowing up my hard-drinkin' and cussin' image with this thread!sad.gif
