Hi Everyone,

My wife is filling in her I-864 and her mother (who she lives with) is filling in an I-864A.

My wife will attach three tax scripts, one for each of the previous years. Does anyone know howmany transcripts her mother should attach? Previous three years, or just previous year?

Thanks,

-Mike

For both the I-864 and I-864A only the last tax transcript is needed, to submit to NVC.

That said, the beneficiary should take the previous two years with them to the interview (for the sponsor and joint sponsor) just in case they ask to see them.

Thank you - I'll make sure I get them to send me those returns for my interview. One thing is troubling me a litte. I found another website where someone posted a question, and from what I can see, they did everything right, precisely as my wife intends to. Do you see anything flawed with their approach? - I include a link and the text below:

"I recently filed an I-130 petition for my mother. I submitted I-864 and I-864A, Affidavit of Support, to show that my husband and I meet the federal poverty guideline. I am a housewife with no income and the petitioner of my mother. However, my husband is a self-employed businessman who makes over six figures. As a petitioner, I have to file I-864, which I did. My husband signed I-864A because I could not meet the federal poverty guideline on my own. Few weeks later, USCIS office sent me a letter stating that they wanted me to fill out a new I-864 because I did not meet the minimum income requirement. Why did they do that? My husband's income should have supplemented my lack of income."

That seems like a fluke. When you file I864 and your co-sponsor files I864A, make sure you link them together by properly filling in I864A. You need to put in co-sponsor's info exactly as it appears in I864A form.

But that thing you quoted shouldn't be the case.
