Started off in Army reserves as a grunt, transferred to regular force navy working with radar, etc in Ops room, then applied for and got a remuster to Air Force, working electronics on the P3C (Cp 140 Aurora)

Never had a problem with "gay" people, actually hate that term "gay' not sure why we have to label people. I had a problem with jerks, and they come in all colors, sizes and sexual preferences, lol

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Speaking of terms like "homophobe"... why don't you offer a definition in which the vast majority of the people in the country (not to mention the world)..... don't qualify.

Why? So you can pretend that you aren't one when you so clearly are?

Pretend I am not what?

You tards can't even define it.

When you finally do...... you will see that yes, I am one and so are most people.

One of my really good college buddies is a lesbian in the Army and a CO. Pretty sure everyone she works with knows, as she's super butch and more manly than most of the men and has NEVER made a secret of it -- if you ask, she'll tell. Nobody cares that their CO is a lesbian - she can kick their asses, and they all know it, and if they tried to taunt her about it, they'd get their asses handed to them for insubordination.

I know you're surely not talking to me.

Because pretending to know a damn thing about me is a sad mistake.

I've not once bashed anyone for being gay. I've not once said anything against someone of a different orientation once in this thread.

This isn't about "my stance" on gays as I have not once perpetuated that in my posts. You haven't a damn clue what my stance is on the subject, so don't pretend you do.

If you have some sort of rebuttal, make it about what I'm actually saying and take me up on that. Don't try and pretend to know me though. That's ridiculous.

So I would suggest you actually read what I'm saying about how SOME PEOPLE do feel about the situation and how that doesn't fit in to every day life for a lot of them.

We're not talking about someone's life style choice. We're talking about the damn military and the job they have to do and how important it is that distractions of any sort not get in the way of duty. While there are plenty who are accepting of people's lifestyles, there are plenty in the same boat who aren't. That is reality. That's not illusion, that's not a myth, that is the honest truth. The only thing going in the favor of this repeal today is the fact that things are a lot less communal than they once were once you get outside of BCT.

This issue has nothing to do with "gay rights."

The hypocrisy and the bullshit of the whole thing speaking of "party hacks" is that most on the far-left have no intention of EVER joining the military. Most gays who are fighting for this have no intention of EVER joining the military. It's just one more 'barrier' that is seen in the that needs to be torn down, that has absolutely nothing to do with lifestyle. -

This isn't about partnerships, marriage, unions, or whatever. This isn't about wanting to hold hand and kiss in public and not be shocked at people's reactions. Stop pretending like it is. This is just one more thing to say, "we will not shut up." and has nothing to do with real/actual rights.

What the hell does it matter for someone to be gay and serve in the military? It doesn't matter a damn thing. - What does it mean to be 'openly' gay and serve in the military? It matters a lot when you are found out about by your redneck/homophobic service members who will taunt you, tease you, and possibly do things worse to you.

We are not at a point in this country, in this society, that people have become fulling accepting to the overwhelming vast majority. The prop 8 vote in California should prove that. The numerous other states where the people vote on this should prove that.

Paul, soare me the fake outrage, OK? Your post began with how sex and who you sleep with should never be an issue "at work". Give me a break. If straight military men can discuss ANY subject better than sex and the girls they are banging at the moment I do not know which one it is. Maybe their rifles. To suggest that they aren't is totally ignorant at best, just plain stupid at worst.

It was the entire (false) premise of your post which has now been changed to levels of discomfort, purposes of themilitary, arguing about other reasons men and women and not admited etc. All of which proves it is not a "reason" it is an excuse. It is also why I said, if you just want to exclude gays because you are homophobic, just say so.

Personally I do not care if someone else is gay, if they talk about it or not, live together or not, whatever. I guess I am secure enough in my own relationship that what others do just doesn't concern me.

On this memorial day weekend I give thanks to all our service men and women, past and present regardless of who they have sex with when I am not looking.

Thank You!

It's sad that so many people have so little knowledge of what the role of the military is.

The Military excludes people for all kinds of reasons things like tattoos with nudity or depicting a pot leaf.

For being over weight, for being too short, for poor eye vision and a host of other conditions.

The main question has always been will this change make the service perform better? Will it have negative effects?

SOmetimes Changes can bring about both good and bad but ...the god outweigh the bad such as when Blacks were integrated with the rest of the service, though there were conflicts they were out weighed by logistics and other improvements.

THe question is, how do kissing Marines, improve the Corps?

Sure Homos have always served in the military and one would suppose that some have even performed exceptional in their duties.... but the same can be said of Child molesters or drug addicts as they too have served. MAny of these taking-points are meaningless to the question; Do homosexuals or any other person in a fringe lifestyle have a "Right to serve"?

The clueless relate the military as a 9-5 job where you can keep your private life at home..... for many troops their home life is the military as you eat, bunk, work, recreation with the same guys in your unit.

This change will bring about a title wave of questions, every thing from barracks to bring a date to the Ball, to Gay-clubs on base to cross dressing and transgender rights?

Will Gays be tested for AIDS more often..... as they still are hundreds of times more likely to be infected?

..... in a profession where blood is both spilled often..... and sometimes required for transfusions this is not something a civilian bean counter would even consider.

Also, Can Gays marry if in a state which allows, will they get base housing and pay?

These situations / questions are endless.... yet amusing.

But really the one question I would like to have input on is.... "what improvements will this bring to the armed forces"?

Like I said Danno, you want to ban gays because they are Gay and because it has some benefit to the military, they say so and state the reasons. Give me the benefits gained.

The military does not ALLOW short people IF they do not SAY they are short. What a dumb@ss form of reasoning. This is the problem with political HACKS, they have no sense, they just go with the party line no matter what and when they can't reasonably explain a position they stammer out some horribly ridiculous utterance. Dummycrats are just as guilty, which is why I can never understand anyone who has loyalty to a political party that only wants to impose it's views on others by force.

Please name ANY OTHER condition that is OK if you do not tell about it, but gets you kicked out of the military, by expressed policy, if you do. PLEASE. What this proves is that the whole thing is ridiculous. Somehow the military is protected if gays don't talk about sex, but the world goes to hell in a hand basket if they do? Are you seriously putting forth this argument?

Short people are sought out in the tank corps and submarine service, BTW not to mention several other specialties. A short, really strong guy is ideal for tank duty, no matter who he has sex with. I never tried it, but I have been inside tanks and it does not seem a good place for sex.

Please make your points without resorting to insults and name-calling. They really add nothing to the discussion and actually detract from the points you are trying to make, as well as violate the TOS for this site.

Gary if you had been following this subject you would know the reasons why open homosexuality in the barracks and among units could be troublesome.

I have not checked the latest regs on height but I would be willing to bet you are wrong on that point too, while some mos's might favor "shorter" guys, I doubt they are giving special height exemptions for these recruits. I'm betting the minimum size is right around 5'3'

If you are 5'2" you are discriminated against (unless you are female)

DOn't Ask Don't tell was a compromise that was reached which would relieve GaY SERVICE personnel from admitting a disqualifying status.... even if they had committed no homosexual act.

Yeah it's hokey... take it up with Clinton not me, I'm not defending DADT as much as I am the military's right to reject some people from service if they choose.

There are like a million ways to serve ones country, none of us are cut out for all of them.

The word homophobe was devised to alienate and demonize anyone who disagrees with the homosexual lifestyle. I would like to know how many ppl that are supposedly pro-gay in this thread live in a gay neighborhood?

NONE? By choosing a non-gay neighborhood you have discriminated against gay neighborhoods. That makes all the supposed gay supporters in this thread hypocrite closet homophobes.
