I am off work as of now until mid-August, so I'm planning to visit my family back in the UK. I am super flexible with flights and routes, all I want is something cheap.

But I seriously can not find ANYTHING that is cheap. I've tried loads of different dates and airports and everything is around $1,200!

Anyone know if there's any way for me to find something cheaper?

I'm going from Cleveland to Glasgow.

It's just going to get more expensive as you get further into summer. High season for tourism.

Check fares into Dublin, Ireland. You can always get a cheap hopper flight from Dublin to other parts of the UK. You should find something in the $700-800 range for the transatlantic flight if you travel soon.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

The main carriers are pretty jacked up right now for summer. I took a look at Continental and US Air just now and prices as you have found. Not tried Delta, the closest to Glasgow is Manchester for them now. (Since they dropped Edinburgh Continetnal jacked the prices up there, I felt that badly last year).

One airline you might want to consdider - Iceland Air. i have used them before, they fly to Glasgow via Iceland from JFK and prices are usually pretty good, albeit you need to actually get to JFK. I played around with a few dates and got a price under $1k return.

Hmm ok, this is dissapointing.

I thought the "flexible dates" option was my best bet. I could see flights that where about $600 dollars, but it looked like you had to wait about a week before being able to purchase those flights. Now there are NO flexible date flights until October!

Try http://www.asaptickets.com/

You can get some good prices however be aware the flights you are given could involve numerous connections and long stays at airports. Just did a quick search and came up with AA for around $750.

Isn't flying into Edinburgh much cheaper? My in-laws are between the two cities so I always check both. Edinburgh usually wins.

Cheapest/earliest I'm finding under $1000 seats available is the last two days of August for departure.....

They really jacked up this summer's prices. There was a news story on it the other day :/

Some get really cheap come the fall though...

I retract my statement. I was just playing with the sites I like and I couldn't find anything under $1900 in June and $1350 in August. WOW THEY HAVE SKY ROCKETED!!!

Skyscanneris the BEST site to scan for fares. I'm searching for fares right now to send my husband home to England. What a friggin' nightmare. As for airfares, Cheapoair is a good place to check for low fares. A good promo code for them is COUPONCABIN15.

I've found good fares through AA, which is probably what we'll go with. I got a good promo code for them through this site, which sends you a personal promo code after you participate in their vote.

My favorite airline ever is New Zealand Air. I just got a 10% off promo code from them the other day, BRITWEEK10 if you want to use it and check for rates coming out of Cleveland.

As you can see, I live by promo codes. They've saved us from going broke!

if you're in cleveland it may be cheaper to drive the 150 or so miles to detroit and from there to london

I bought a ticket last week for my sister to come back to the US from london. I noticed the flights started going up after June 8 or 16. I don't know if that will help, but the ones after those dates seemed to be almost double the ones before that.

I went back in February and the flights were ridiculously priced back then. We'd usually pay around $400-600 but this time it was $800-1000. I have no idea why. I usually go through Expedia and then double-check it against the Virgin or AA sites to see how much I'm saving.
