The Constitution mandates it.

I am not disputing that...I am just saying why I don't like it. Don't they trust me to tell them how many people live in my house without asking names?

What I find amusing about this paranoia over names etc is that it could easily be found by other means without even asking the person that lives at a particular address. You are given the opportunity to freely provide information that can be obtained elsewhere and without your knowledge.

Well I guess I can sort of understand why USCs might be bothered by it.

But considering how much info USCIS has on the rest of us, the government already has access almost down to what you eat for breakfast in the morning!

I personally, was bothered by how little it asked! The religion question is a running joke to Brits who like to answer with "jedi"

Australia more than 70,000 people (0.37%) declared themselves members of the Jedi order in the 2001 census

Over 53,000 people listed themselves as Jedi in New Zealand's 2001 census

In England and Wales 390,127 people (almost 0.8%) stated their religion as Jedi on their 2001 Census forms, surpassing Sikhism, Judaism, and Buddhism, and making it the fourth largest reported religion in the country

I hope people of the future find it as amusing as we do

The only thing they can constitutionally ask you is how many people live in your residence. It's a simple head count.

Whether you're white, black, latino, etc.. is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT.

It really isn't irrelevant. It shows the demographics of an area and how it is changing. It provides information that can be used to plan for future needs.

Census workers call my office all the time for the listings that we have 'how long has it been vacant? was it vacant on x/x/xx? what is the owner's phone number?'

I tell em nothing.

If they wanted to push it, they could. It's the law.

skin color is irrelevant to the needs of an area.

It's actually quite racist to think so/act as so.

I mean are you going to be like "oh more black people live in this area, so we need more funding for a new basketball facility?" - cmon......

I personally dislike census forms because they ask too much personal info and yet continue to say 'what's so scary about a census?'..unless I am claiming something that the government is paying for, they have no right to demand I tell them how many people I have living in my house. ####### off!

Indeed, why do they need to know my name? They claim it's only for statistical purposes, but

you'd better believe that information will be entered into a government database and used for

other purposes sooner or later.

Census workers are instructed to be "politely persistent" in demanding your personal info. Just politely refuse by giving just your age and gender and number of people living in your residence. THAT is all the constitution requires. DON'T let them in your house or Apt. DON'T be intimidated.

I invited the Census workers into our house. They refused. They said they are instructed to NOT GO INTO ANYONE's HOME. I don't know what is the source of your information but it is contradictory with my first hand experience.

That's interesting. I had a lady come in saying they didn't get my response even though I left it in the mail box within 3 days of receiving it. We sat down at the kitchen table to do it again. She had a badge and all the paper work, although to be honest I had my hands full at the time and didn't examine it as closely as I should have.

The ones who came around our neighbourhood didn't want to come in the houses either, they stood on the doorstep AND were perfectly polite with those people who did not want to answer their questions. I don't know why people have this fear of census but there is nothing wrong with simply providing the minimum information and if you really don't want to, none at all. What's to get so upset about?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Your comment is racist, not mine. It isn't about skin color. Enjoy your paranoia.

Look at the ones who are getting upset, are you really surprised?
