Hi,

What I would do is try and get a hold of some of the more older VJ members from Gujarat who might still have their checklist in their inboxes. Or anyone who got a RFE for PCCs, actually. See if they will let you use it (obviously without the barcode part) -- I know a few people from Gujarat and Hyderabad (the two places that cause the most trouble) who did this -- sharing the checklist to get their PCCs quickly.

As for Mumbai, this is unconfirmed so I would definitely confirm with NVC and the Consulate but I hear they only want one PCC as of May 11. The other one is redundant. I can't remember which one it is off the top of my head so look around.

I would do as Darnell suggested. Attach a letter explaining how they will not issue a PCC without some official confirmation. Maybe the NVC gods will shine down on you and they will complete your case and allow you to bring it to the interview. Otherwise you will get a RFE, and you can use that RFE checklist to procure your PCC. Use some 'speed money' as well.

I have heard of a few members being successful in getting their PCCs by using the DOS website page which states that for visa purposes a PCC is required. See if that works!

Good luck!

I think they only want Passport office clearance certificate (PCC from RPO) if passport issue date is less than six month old. (Because PCC from RPO will cover all of the places and has more value than local police clerance).

The local police clearance is redundant in this case.

I am from Hyderabad but the Police Office here has the same rules - they want a letter from NVC requesting the PCC.

I did write a letter to the NVC with my DS-230 submission requesting them to give me permission to bring the PCC to the interview instead since I couldnt get one without a letter, and they still hit me with an RFE for it. I took the RFE and used that to acquire the PCC,although communal riots delayed that too by about a month or so.I could share the email I received from them, but its in PDF and it has my wife's name on it, dont know if that will do you any good. Although I would discourage any form of cheating with the US government just so there are no problems in the future.

Good luck!

Here's the RFE body from the email I got.

There were three pages total, first one said there is missing information.

Second one was the barcoded cover sheet to be sent in with the pcc.

And the third one had this on it:

Maybe you can put it in a word Doc and print it out with your names...

Police Station serving their area of residence.

i think it is weird how you have to get an RFE to get a PCC and all this. why don't they allow you to get it with just the NOA or the IV bill. so strange.

Please go to passport office and get Application Form 2 for Misc Service. This will cost you approximately Rs.300, you will need to specify that you need the PCC for US. This can be done via agent or personally (perferred). You are not alone, they do the same stuff in Punjab as well. You just need to tell them that you need to get this info under Right to Information Act, under Article 4 (1) (b) (i). They can not refuse you for this, if they still give you problem, please get their name and additional info, and file complaint with RTO. My wife was having issues obtaining this, and when she stated that she has right to info, they gave her the info. http://passport.gov.in/cpv/complaints.htm

Jimmy,

"06-18-2010 - Received email to Send DS-230" in your timeline... did you get a checklist in that email?

I wonder if my wife printed out that email if the passport office would give her the PCC then?

I would love to try it the way you explained above but i know my wife doesn't have the courage to stand up to them like yours did.

No i did not receive any check list because they have it on their website. Then i emailed NVC to find out what is the status, they asked me to send in DS-230 form along with supportive documents which i mailed. I called Yesterday, and they told me they are still reviewing my AOS.. not sure why it is taking so long... and they haven't touched my DS-230.. i am afraid, i still need to wait 2-3 months additional.
