The Mexican government encourages desert crossings by publishing and distributing a pamphlet with tips on how to do it. I'm sure that one of the reasons they want us to keep giving amnesties to their trespassers is to cut back on their printing costs.

And the activists who encourages desert crossings by placing water at stations for them!

Better than death surely. They might be illegal aliens but they are still human beings.

Surely you know they give up all right to being classified as such through dint of their illegal activity, no?

The acts of human beings have consequences. That's why we have laws, even if our government is too ideologically brain dead to enforce them.

It's also why we have charity - because desperation that drives people to break immigration laws doesn't merit a death sentence.

Charity begins at home, bro. Like the rancher said, the rights of Americans must come before the rights of illegals.

I thought we were all on the same page that enforcing employment law is what needs to happen, not building silly walls that we can't realistically enforce.

If there's no reason for people to cross the desert (which is, in essence a natural barrier), then they won't do it.

Building walls, fences or what have you creates diplomatic issues in much the same way as conducting military exercises or mobilising troops near international borders; and seeing as how the entire issue of illegal immigration is rather sensitive to say the least - pissing off a country that the US has outsourced large amounts of its manufacturing base to would seem rather silly.

Enforcing employment laws is one measure, not some and all be all prevention tactic. There will always be a multitude of reasons for people to cross the border.

Pleeeease, it's quite clear that the United States neighbor views the country as some sort of ATM machine, rather than some friendly neighbor they are concerned about. By both legal and illegal means, they earn billions from the US. A adequately secured wall, including a virtual wall, is absolutely necessary for the US. Otherwise, it's downright pointless sending those caught illegally back to their homes, when they can literally walk straight back in.

Evidently you are confusing European neighbors to that of America's neighbor. A neighbor is neighbor after all right? Wrong! Totally different kettle of fish.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Especially when one considers that somewhere in the range of 40% of today's illegal alien population arrived here legally and just failed to leave.

Citation?

It's not necessary, it's a waste of money. Address the cause of illegal immigration and you will stem the tide. A wall won't do that. It's as ludicrous as Reagans Star Wars plan.

Address the cause.... So you advocate that the United States take over the Mexican government do you?

Human rights are universal, at least they should be if American values mean anything.

If human rights are universal, then Mexico could show some to its own people so they wouldn't have to come here. If the American values of sovereignty and private property still meant something, we wouldn't be begging our unresponsive government to defend them.

In the context of what I was talking about, I have no problem with people who set up water and aid stations (doesn't the border patrol do this? Are they not expected to render aid in the perfomance of their duties?) in the desert. It is the moral thing to do.
