The thing that amuses me is that in many places for the past decade (or longer in some cases) the information has been readily available on large posters in establishments and i know a couple of places that dare to put it on the menu for you to see and the trends have not changed.

The new law that went into effect requires establishments with over 20 locations to put calorie content next to the picture of the menu item... I seriously doubt that will help much either...

Everything should be within reasonable limits. Something like limiting a single meal purchased at an establishment to 2,000 calories is not a dumb idea. The calorie and fat information should also be available online, in a brochure and on the product; when it's over 400 calories.

Well, the problem is not just the ingredients, but the portion sizes. Where I am from the large popcorn at the theater is equivalent to a small here, although things are changing there as well and they're importing the big buckets of popcorn to the modern theaters. I know for sure that growing up our large soda at McDonalds was about a 1/3 of the large I see out here, not mentioning the portions of breakfast deals like stacks of pancakes and things like that. The portions are just gynormous!
