I just got some disappointing news about the new visa fees. My fiancée received a call from a woman claiming to be from the US Embassy today stating that she will need to pay the difference of $219.00 before her interview.:blink: She called me understandably upset about the situation and ask me to verify it because an embassy worker called her from a cell phone.

I then called the National Visa Center and the US Embassy in Bogota today and both people told me that the embassy will collect the difference of $219 USD to total $350 if your interview date is after 6/4/2010 :(.

On top of this, I was told that she will have to complete another DS-156 form with a bar code that is generated from the website like the instructions say in packet 4. We did this the FIRST time but the Banco Helm employees wouldn’t accept the computer generated form, made her come back the next day and complete one by hand..

I’m also curious if anyone else has received a call or investigated if they will also need to pay the difference if they paid the fee of $131 but have an interview date after 6/4/2010.

The fee is based on your interview date not the date you pay the fee. All of the Embassy websites seem to word to notice to specifically mention that the increase is effective for "interviews after 6/4/2010" not that the fee itself is effective 6/4/2010.

I found a statement on the website. I just think its shady of them to come back and milk you for more money after the fee has been paid.. Especially since the fee was paid before they made their release...

On the DS-156 form Banco Helm made my fiancee change her form and the embassy advised the Banoo Helm for was old revision but accepted it.

Also we had prepared a Letter of Intent, and Letter of Singlehood stating to the best of their(friends thet knew us)knowledge we were single

Have not seen this on the package 3/4 documents but in the list in the folder of requested items you prepare at the embassy on Visa Day

I have a letter of intent but was unaware of this other statement they request..

I want to make sure I understand correctly so are you also saying they request a letter from a friend(s) of my fiancee stating that she is single and free to marry??????

Tengo R.A.B.I.A! why? is something about $$$$ ?

you don't need it  some people bring a new letter of intent signed recently, but it is not requested by the embassy, don't worry
