dying to know what random distance pulled out of yr ####### would be deemed "tasteful" then. is there a tasteful distance you want muslims to observe at other various sites around the rest of the nation as well?

If it has to be in NY, then not within sight of the former twin towers. For better or worse, a large if minority population in the Muslim faith have given the religion a black eye. I know we are all supposed to pretend it isn't so, but that is the reality.

Again, I agree that they have the right to put it where they want, and worship whatever way they like. I do stop short of condoning killing in the name of any religion. But to not understand the deep seated mistrust and anger of the non-Muslim population in choosing this particular site appears deliberately antagonistic and in my opinion not exactly tasteful.

The new tower is 1,776 feet tall. That basically rules out a huge section of New York if your argument is based on LOS.

Unlike you folks, I have been to Mecca, and, yes, everyone in Mecca is Muslim. Non-Muslims are not allowed to even visit there.

...whereas any non-Christian can visit the Vatican. So much for religious tolerance.

And yet a woman with a skirt just grazing the top of her knee is sent back to change. Not that I would know of such experience. Dreadful pedal pushers that should have been put down as an affront to style are okay, though.

It's only a slap in the face if you see a mosque and think that's where terrorists hang out.

Not if they have a Christmas tree, a menorah and a smiley face "have a nice day crescent" parked in the front yard...

Narf!

Pinky: Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?

Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world!

Brain: We must prepare for tomorrow night.

Pinky: Why? What are we going to do tomorrow night?

Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world!

I don't want to get into this whole argument. But the similitude between Vatican City and Mecca/Medina aren't same. Mecca and Medina were hosts to important Islamic events and turning points. Whereas in Vatian City, nothing happened. There's nothing inherently holy about the Vatican City to Christians. For all that matters, Vatican City could have been in Djibouti or Tuvalu.

Another argument I can make about non-Muslim not being allowed in Mecca/Medina is that doing so will turn these cities into tourist sports. Not religious sanctuary. But then again, Muslims themselves are turning these holy cities into tourists sport with 5-star hotels and Starbucks. So I imagine in few decades, everyone can visit that must-get-to Victoria's Secret store just next to the Kaa'ba.
