AOS Pending - Applying to College

So, I figured I'd consider going back to school, and am applying online as we speak... however, I'm not sure what to put as my fuzzy grey area current status of AOS pending (because of course, there's no option for that, as it kind of falls under 'other'). They say to put your status as of 8/23/10. By the way things seem to be going, by then I really should have my AOS approved (if not, then omg, I'll be complaining...lol).. however as we all know, there are no guarantees. So I'm not sure if I should just put 'other' and have status as 'K-1' visa. But I'm not technically that now either as both my visa and my I-94 are now expired.

The reason it's a concern is that since I've been living in the u.s. for less than a year, if I put K-1 then this college might classify me as an international student and I would have to pay tuition of about 5-6 times that of a 'local' student. yikes. Also, I'm not K-1 anymore anyway... but if I put status as 'other' it doesn't let me enter my A#. SIGH. :bonk:

Any ideas? I don't want to lie, but honestly the way the system is set up, I have to. lol I'm just not sure what to put.

To be honest, all you should need to do is talk to Admissions. They'll help you get it all sorted out. I don't think you'd be counted as an international student, but you are right -- there is that fuzzy gray area, and I'm all too certain that they could help you figure out where you're supposed to be. :)

Yes I know... as I mentioned, that's why I am concerned. lol If they try to do that I'll go in person and cry and beg and show proof that I can't afford it and would have to postpone school for a year. I can prove that I have my AOS application submitted and pending at least, and hopefully they should accept that as proof that I am taking steps to remain in California, and not go back home (though secretly I want to go back home, but they don't need to know that).

And thanks for the suggestion frenzy. :) After I posted this I looked through the online application a little more, and it says if you put your status as 'other' that you just need to contact Admissions after you submit your application. I think I'm going to do 'other' and put my visa as k-1 even though it's no longer current. lol then I can straighten it up with them later

I would call, or go down to their admissions office and ask them. You anticipate that you would have your green card by then, but you wouldn't have the documentation until then to prove that you are an LPR.

BTW, have you applied for your SSN and drivers license? If you haven't, this can be a big pain in the ####### with admissions, although, I suppose that depends upon the university.

I have my SSN card, but not driver's license yet. The application asked for SSN, but didn't mention the license. That said I'm hoping to have it by August 23rd too. lol

And thanks, I think I will submit the application online so I can get a reference number at least, and then call them to follow up.
