We feel more comfortable with sending the AOS before the I-94 expires. Although, have you heard of an experience when the AOS process got delayed due to sending the packet after the I-94 expired?

The guidance to file before the I-94 expiration for K-1 entrants has little to do with the AOS process. It's more because it makes the rest of life easier as there is no gap in status. No worries about getting hassled by law enforcement, etc.

Before or after the I-94 expiration date has, in the past, had no impact to the USCIS process - for K-1 entrants.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

I applied for a marriage license in Baltimore County Maryland....my fiance (in France) did not need to be present at the time of application and no SSN was needed from him. I swore an oath to the clerk of courts that he did not have one. I paid $35 and the license is good for 6 months. I sent a copy of it to my fiance for his K-1 interview...which has not been scheduled yet - I hope it helps.

BTW...since the license was issued in Balt. County, we must be married in the issuing county. :)

:lol: damn expensive California! Ours was $50 and velid for 90 days...we got married right away so it didn't matter...just sayin'...sorry this was :ot: !

My daughter, who now lives in France, married her fiance, who lives in Germany, in Maui, Hawaii, which is in the United States of America. None of them have a SSN, 'cause they're tourists. Do you think their marriage is less valid now? Should I be worried and call them in Europe and ask them to get married again or get social security numbers?

you dont need an SSN to get married. I showed them my passport and gave my birth certificate..my husband showed them his drivers license and gave his birth certificate...We also have a joint account and I have no ssn...
