“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

A number of posts containing personal attacks and insults have been removed. Acceptable parts of the removed posts are returned to the thread below.

Madame Cleo:

No one, not least black people want to be given jobs just because

of their skin colour. Do you honestly believe that black people are simply

incapable of performing as well as white people as firefighters? I mean,

seriously?

Quoted: SMOKE, on 24 May 2010 - 01:11 PM, said:

you did also see that the city did not agree w/ the courts findings either, didn't you? like i said.

i want the best & brightest climbing the ladder to pick my azz out of a 10th floor window of a building on fire. not someone that is qualified. the best & brightest.

Madame Cleo: No, you really don't care. What you care about is the justification for the "white's are being discriminated against rhetoric" or you would find it at least odd and worth investigating the reasons behind why so few black people are ever considered capable of performing as 'the best and the brightest' in firefighting in that city.

Quoted: Booyah: Evidently it's you who believes this, thus, wants the fire department to lower the bar to allow them in.

Madame Cleo:

I don't want any bars to be lowered. If you think that, then ONCE AGAIN you have fundamentally misunderstood every post I have made.

Smoke: what i care about is peoples lives being in jeopardy because we lower the bar in testing to accommodate someone that doesn't make the cut.

and more returned material here:

Quoted:Booyah!:

I can read between the lines. This is just another example of the crusade certain Caucasians in the US seem to be on, like they are trying to prove something.

Have a look at any thread on here where the opposite is posted and those who stand by thus silliness, will either not post or the few that do post will downplay its significance and accuse those of pointing the hypocrisy out of whining.

Once again: Game, set and match for booooooyah....

Madame Cleo: However, think what you like, because invariably you do, despite all piles of evidence that you are wrong, particularly in your quest to prove that I suffer from a severe case of white guilt

Quoted: SMOKE:

Madame Cleo: I am not suggesting FOR ONE INSTANT that the city lowers any standards simply to make up quotas of black people and if you understood anything I have written on this subject, or indeed the position of those challenging the status quo, you would not make such a comment.

Quoted: Madame Cleo:

The highest scorers of that particular test are not necessarily the brightest and best. I would have

thought, if you were interested in achieving the best you would want to know for sure that the test worked properly. Obviously, you don't, or you assume that only 10% or less of black people applying for a job as a firefighter in that city are capable of being the 'brightest and best' firefighters. I think you can see why that might be construed as bigoted, no?

Smoke: says you not the fire department....more accusations of racism. no, i can't see things from your POV thats why i asked.
