Update: My husband is still in Juarez waiting for the passport and the brown envelope since Friday july 2.

He asked the consul at the end of his interview and she said he was Approved. he then added: so i'm done? i can be with my wife? and she added: " yes you are done " with a smile... Based on that we assumed that he was approved...

Today I called to know what happened with his package because he is still waiting in Juarez and every day we have to pay for the hotel room. The consulate person told me that the info he has says that he has been placed in administrative review and to wait for the correspondence from 1 to 8 bus. days after interview. and that AR could last anywhere from a day to 6 months.

I am hoping that there has been some type of mistake, My husband is basically stuck in Juarez because they kept his passport!!!! GOsh i'm feeling sooo down right now :(

I don't know what to do now, do I keep asking people to lend me money so that he can stay in juarez until next week? Can he fly home without a passport in mexico in case he needs to leave since we have no more money for hotels? DId the operator make a mistake since they kept his passport and the consul said he was approved? is our AR going to last 6 months?? stay tuned....

Extra steps: Turns out in Juarez they do not tell you the final result of interview on the spot, you have to wait to receive a DHL package that contains the verdict and passport hopefully. Even though my husband was "approved" during interview (per consul answer) he was placed in Administrative Review on JUly 6 according to consulate operator.

Sounds like they put him in AP/AR after the interview where he was told he was approved. Same thing happened with Amit+Melody in New Delhi.

He can certainly return home -- by "home," I assume you mean some other place in Mexico? You don't need a passport for domestic travel. The Embassy should be able to return his passport via courier once his AP is over, and hopefully, his visa is issued.

FYI -- ALL applicants undergo AP. Most checks are done within 24 hours and get the required clearance from Washington D.C. so we never hear about them. Others get stuck for name and background checks. His visa is approved, pending the additional processing so I hope it's a short one for your sake.

I don;t know what is happening, but wanted to say that I sympathize with the situation. I know you were both really relived to be done with this process and now you're learning that he may need to wait some time before he can actually join you :((

APPPPPPRRRRROOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDD -- Almost

Just talked to my wife, she is 98% approved. She just needs to get a validation stamp on the marriage certificate and her birth certificate, and she needs to turn in passport scans of both my parents (co-sponsors). (Is that normal?)

I am happy the items are small and easily fixable, and she was planning on staying in Buenos Aires until monday anyways.

Bila-n-javi, sorry about the additional wait. I am sure that it's very frustrating but you'll come through this just like you did the other parts of the process.

THank you Gina and Sachinky. Confirmed he does not need his passport for domestic travel so we decided that he is going home tonight. It is less expensive to come back and pay another flight then to stay all these extra nights at the hotel.

Fingers crossed on the AP thing, I'll keep you guys updated
