Aya,

How wonderful that you've taken on full time mommyhood for your step children. Do you find it challenging? How are you liking it so far? You are a far better woman than I, I'm not sure if I could take on such a challenge and big responsiblity. :)

Aya, Waleed came on the K3 visa and can't receive a SS card until we file AOS and he gets his EAD. In order to get his State ID we had to show he was rejected for his social security card. The SS office understood what we needed and gave us a letter saying he couldn't obtain a social security card at this time since we have to file AOS. I hope that makes sense. Our civil surgeon prices have been between $835, $225, and the known $30 one that doesn't rip people off. We wanted to shop around and get an average from the five civil surgeons available in our area just encase.

Hi Amal! It's good to see you posting around here again too. Thank you for sharing another way of looking at my situation. I like the idea of us building a life together on the same grounds. It feels pretty equal right now.

Illnevergetthis thank you for the link to the Arabic learning tools. I've really struggled with the alphabet and reading word. On livemocha.com I feel like such a baby blush.gif because they want me to write words I can't even spell. People have suggested I relearn another language before starting Arabic to make it easier for me so I started going through my French and Spanish again. I don't know if it will help but I guess we'll see.

We're off to do the weekly grocery shopping now. TTYL!

It's been VERY challenging and so exciting so far! :)

Both 'our' children were left as young as a few months old. Since then John has been a Dad and Mom at the same time. It's been a big challenge for him and the kids are a big part of his life and of mine now. I've kept constant communication with them other the phone for the two years our relationship was online. It was hard for them to understand why I talk to them over the phone, but can't meet them 'yet'. They would tell me all about their day and even tell me that they miss me, I felt just the same! There was that incident that happened a few days before I received my visa...I was at my work place and had a weird feeling that something happened to our daughter, I took a break and I called him and told him the feeling I had, he told me a minute right before I called him the kids' school called and asked him to come pick our daughter up cause she was not feeling too well...

The first day I arrived here, the kids insisted on coming with him to the airport to pick me up. It was a two-hour drive and they got tired and sleepy many times. The moment I seen them, I had big hugs from the kids first.

The first week was all exciting! We were still trying to get to know one another. They were still calling me 'Aya', although John would refer to me as 'Mommy'.

The second and third week were TOO tough!! It was spring break and the kids spent more time with me than John. I woke up at 6:00 am ever day...it was too hard as I had insomnia for the last few years which helped a lot with the 7-hour time difference John and I had for 2 years. We always had to find something new to do. Some days were good, although they had their 'crancky' and 'grumpy' moments. Some days were just tough ending up me going into tears asking what I should do! LOL. In these two weeks I read about parenting a lot, and I learned how to use the time-out method which only worked after a few days. In these two weeks they were altering between calling me 'Aya' and 'Mommy'.

The rest of the first month things got a lot better. I got my first: "I missed you, Mommy.", "You are beautiful, Mommy." It was just so heart-warming and cute hearing that from them! We created a deeper bond. We watch movies together, read books together, make a cake every weekend together, help one another make our beds in the morning, etc. I have to say that me and our son got along way faster than me and our daughter. I already knew she had fears I would leave one day, which will not happen. One night while I was singing to her while she was trying to sleep, she asked: "Are you going to ever leave me?" I said: "Never, ever." She said: "I will never let you go either. I love you, my dear mommy" Since that night, everything has been so far perfect.

I visited their school and talked to the teachers, I found out that everyone knew me already cause the kids talk about me every day! LOL. Now we share secrets, give butterfly kisses every night, they wouldnt go to school without giving me kisses, etc. :) I can honestly say I feel they are my own children, there are doubts or second thoughts or notions about that.

I remember John always telling me before I arrived here: "I love you as much as I love our children and I never loved anyone like that before.", and I always thought to myself: 'Can't be like a litle bit more, even a different kind of love." I didn't understand what he was saying until I had the kids. I love the three of them just the same. I'd say I love the kids a little bit more. :P They are so innocent and looking at them just fills me with joy.

John and I are young parents (he's 26 and I am 21). But according to both our families we are doing a great job, thank God. I think that motherhood is just inside any 'normal' woman. All these feelings were inside me and just needed to come out. I am thankful for my husband and our precious children. :)

Thanks for the clarification, Olivia!

So far the least price we could find for a civil surgeon is $135. We had to pay $170 today to get my shots updated and recorded though.

Seems we both will be sending out our AOS packets around the same time. :star:
