Passport question!

Okay here's my predicament,

My hubby wanted to update his passport it expires in 2012 and they only have 5 year validity before having to replace.

His passport has stamps from the two times he visited me in the U.S.A. thats extra proof that he had visited me which we had made copies of, but if he replaces his passport then they would give him a new passport that would be empty.

So what should we do because he would want it to have a further expiry date after immigrating and once it would have an immigrant visa stamp we couldn't replace it at that time either.

Anyways I hope this makes sense just need some advice on what we should do about this.

Does the netherlands not give old passport back to them like in the US? It would have stamps in it but just no longer be valid. I would ask about that first before renewing it. Once in the US they will have to get it renewed when it expired anyway (through the embassy of their country). I would look into that first since he still has five years on the current one.

Does the netherlands not give old passport back to them like in the US? It would have stamps in it but just no longer be valid. I would ask about that first before renewing it. They might I just wasn't sure, but will look into it I just hope they wouldn't give any trouble about keeping it they could make it invalid I assume.

I'm not sure about the Netherlands but in Sweden they punch a couple of holes through the old passport and give it back to you.

They invalidate his old passport, but he can keep it. That solves the problem with the visa and traveling dates. He shouldn't get a new passport until his old one is about to expire or is already expired. If you guys have too much money, please donates some of it to a good cause.
