Does anyone know how long it takes to obtain an Egypt police certificate? Also, my finance's birth certificate is in arabic, does he need an official birth certificate in english, or can he just have this arabic one translated by someone authorized to do translations?

thanks

Like others have said, the police cert. should only take a few days. I would have your husband's birth cert. translated in Egypt. My husband did not have his translated there and it ended up costing us way more to have it done here in the US. It's not needed (translation) at the visa stage but you should do it. He will need the translation for AOS in the US.

I would ask my husband if he were at home but your fiance would know where to obtain this. Most Egyptians either know themselves or know someone who knows a thing or two about immigration to the US.

Edited: I just noticed your timeline, you may want your fiance to wait until at least NOA2 before getting the police cert. Those do expire. You never know how long it will take from NOA1 to NOA2 to interview to approval to visa in hand. It could very well take a year so the later he gets the police cert. the less likely it will expire. Most people obtain this after getting their packet 3 and at least after getting their NOA2.

Thanks for the replies..is this something they get at the police station?

The BC does not have to be translated by the EGY government.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Thanks for all the info everyone. My fiance went to the Egypt embassy in Saudi Arabia today and they told him it would take 5 months to get the police report and birth certificate, so I'm glad to know he can easily take care of this when he returns to Egypt.
