Some people can't see the forests or the trees.

And some people see pink elephants when there really are none.

The real issue (si, man) is whether anyone (with a brain) wants to RISK that a genuinely new member wanders into OT and is offended. The fact about VJ OT is that the most basic standards of decency & respect in communication are being flouted, by the same gaggle of posters who either have no self-control or don't want any. With glimmers of occasional exception, OT is a juvenile cesspool courtesy of the offenders, most of whom have likely been warned or disciplined over & over & over, yet they still relapse. Some even post public pleas to be given guidelines on what they can and cannot "get away with," which speaks volumes regarding their intent to apply decency and restraint. Their actions are a very, very poor reflection on the entire VisaJourney site. How many repetitions does it take before it's clear that certain people are unwilling to exercise restraint or are incapable of it? Now perhaps does it sink in what's wrong with OT?

The real issue that you seem to ignore is the enforcement of the ToS. I ask for a clearer guideline as to what is and is not acceptable because the rules are capriciously enforced. There is no consistent enforcement in OT. The TOS itself is vague enough that you could ban each and every person for a snide comment, which could be considered an insult, thus breaching teh TOS, such as your first statement in your last post. Your idea that people who have 10K posts or more should be banned for a month, or how you put it, placed on hiatus for 30 days is asinine.

Calm down people! Amby used to start numerous threads - I remember logging in one morning and every single thread in OT had been started by her. Then I log in this morning and P&V has started practically every thread. It was an observation, that is all!

Noone is saying you have to like her, I don't care if you do or don't but your 'observation' is personally motivated and lacks accuracy. There are any number of posters that have gone through phases of starting lots of threads but you single her out for special mention. I find your response less than persuasive because her threads were never posted to target a particular type of person, or to create a reaction in OT posters, whereas there are many other posters that have and do just that like the other person you compared her to.

asinine.
Yet again, you misquote me. The heart of the matter is not so much where a dividing line of enforcement should be, but whether people in the first place post in such a thoughtless or brazen manner that enforcement is a requirement, not an option.

And, whether or not the TOS are capriciously enforced and anyone could be banned for a snide comment, it's obvious: avoid making snide comments.

I also mentioned Paul & Vanessa starting a lot of threads and compared it to someone who used to do it. It is a mere statement of fact but you seem hellbent on turning it into something else.

Hellbent? Well, that's one way to over react at my posts. They are not apt comparisons for the reasons I have explained. I dare say It seems apt to you as the common denominator is dislike for the thread starters, but that's where the comparison starts and ends. Man up if you dare ;)

I see you have a posse of followers who give you points for everything you post. That makes me  What a bizarre place this is.

VJ wouldn't be VJ without snide comments. Like this one.

Oh, because comparing Amby to Paul is so very accurate  You guys crack me up.

It's a shame they don't still do the -1 thing. I would be sure of a nice -22 for disagreeing with one of the clique and that would have made my day. Anyway, enough of that, not trying to totally derail this thread. Carry on people.

There, I gave you a couple of +1s. Do you feel better now?

If the comparison is lost on you, it is apparently not lost on others. Personally, I care not a fig for either of them. I have no dog in this game.

How am I misquoting you?

1. What would be the benefit or harm of a 30-day "hiatus from posting" for, say, the 10 or 20 posters who have been most prolific in OT over a defined recent period? In this way, we (and they) could see how the tenor of OT might change during their absence. On the basis of those observations, new or refined policies regarding OT could be developed.

2. Alternatively, is there a way to arrange a 30-day "hiatus from posting in OT only" for the above group -- meaning that if they wished to post some (it's hoped) constructive information in an Immigration forum, they still could?

Seems quite clear taht you are passive aggressively advocating giving certain people a 30 Day ban despite any infractions. You seem quite driven to weed out those posters whom you personally deem unnecessary. You are either naive, or a neophyte if you think that people will post without insults, or even snide comments. It's OT, grow thicker skin, or don't post there.
