You don't remember the nOOb patrols? What is now just a coffee clutch was at one time a personal concern of the furry one, as some folks that were regulars of the OT forum were "concerned" about the quality of advise given in so-called Upper Forums. That brought a whole cast of legacy members back into active duty for a while. You hit a dog on the nose enough times, he quits drinking from the toilet.
I wasn't aware of (or wasn't paying attention to) the nOOb patrols at the time. You have an honest face, so I trust you, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Bill, you have no idea what that n00b thread was about. You might have posted a few times in there, but I really don't think you got the idea of it. It was about shutting up those people who give poor and even at times illegal advice. Mostly, it was about just posting funny n00b pix. It was shut down, for two reasons. Yes, some of the people who went to the upper forums to point out and mock the bad advice were quite crass, but mostly, it was shut down because it was seen as coordinating attacks on people.

This is why I really objected to the n00b thread; I may have even reported it (brain cells fried by excess gin consumption so I'm unclear on this point). It came across as mean-spirited, even for OT, and I found the whingeing of some of the posters when it was threatened with extinction quite ridiculous.

Yeah, but do you really want to have imbeciles posting bad advice that could possibly jeopardize someone's visa? I will finally concede that it was indeed mean spirited at times. But it didn't start that way. Frequently, someone would point out blatantly poor or misleading advice, and the person in question would come back with some sort of insult. You know what happens next.... 3 pages of insults. I'll admit I was guilty of it, but I was at least civil about it and kept my insults in OT. Oh wait, except for Kittyfang. She just rubs me the wrong way with her blatantly illegal AoS.

I will agree it did not start out that way, and that I had a giggle in the beginning. But the place, I feel, to correct bad info is in the thread itself, not OT. I do quite a bit of correcting myself (and I too am corrected, sometimes with the inverse of "STFU n00b", which is "STFU greybeard") but I never saw the need to go round up the troops to back me up. It seemed in the end to be less about reasonable yet firm correction and more about people getting their rocks off.

(blatantly illegal AOS? how did I miss this?tongue.gif)

The funny part was how most people don't know the difference between a newb and a n00b.

newb = new member

n00b = old member who thinks they know everything but really knows nothing.

People contribute where they want to contribute. What in the world kind of idea is it that if you don't want to contribute to the immigration forums, you shouldn't be on here?

And it's fairly odd to comment that people who are done with their journeys shouldn't contribute. Places like this wouldn't even exist if it weren't for people who are 'done' but stick it out for the benefit of others.

This discussion has gotten quite strange.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

I just want to comment that since this thread started there seems to be more civility in OT. Not perfect but a big improvement over just a few days ago.

That's because some of us don't feel like playing anymore. With FB gaining popularity geometrically, instead of 10 new pages everyday in OT, they can't seem to even finish 1 most days.
