Question:

My husband has his biometrics appointment next week in Milwaukee. We sent in our application the middle of July. Will he receive his work authorization the same day? OR...how long after biometrics does one receive work authorization and the green card? Are they linked? What do they do at biometrics? Does this mean the interview was waived?

Melody Leung

What is the average amount of time it takes to receive work authorization and the green card?

Biometrics is having your fingerprints taken and a digital photo... you will not get your EAD on the day its normally about 6 -8 weeks after your Biometrics that you get the EAD....

Having your biometrics done does not mean you will be approved for your greencard without interview... everyone has to have their biometrics done...

If you're interested in EAD, its processed by the NBC, not your local DO. Pretty much everyone on this site is in the same boat, so those numbers should be fairly close to what you will experience, assuming that the NBC doesn't start processing EADs slower or faster.
