Just a question for Brits enrolled or graduated from college programs in the states.

Im thinking of applying to go to school here, to get my Associate in Arts Degree. The only qualifications i have with me from England are 3 A levels. Does anyone know if these can count towards college credit?? I've been told foreign degrees can be transcribed to be counted as college credit, but i wasnt sure if the same was true of A levels.

Second question... on my visa application, I stated i had no intentions of studying over here. Will it matter that i've changed my mind?

Thanks! Jo

I'm sure they can transcribe A Levels seeing as they're our "stepping stone" into college in the UK.

An Associate degree is generally the equivalent to a British Foundation Degree or a Higher National Diploma (according to Wikipedia and word of mouth). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 3 A-levels might allow you to get into a Bachelor degree programme in the US, just as it would in the UK. Obviously you might not want to do that anyway, and I would advise getting that checked out.

Also, I shouldn't think you'll have problems studying when you stated you had no intentions. Plans change. I'm thinking of doing my ph.D and I also said I had no intentions. :)

You DO know what PhD stands for, right? Permanent Head Damage.

Yes, what Gemmie said. A-levels will probably not be enough to count as college credit, but would be sufficient for entering an Associate's programme. Make sure there aren't other requirements like maths to a certain level, because these are fairly common and you might need to meet them before you can secure entry.

I keep saying to myself that one day I'll do my PhD too, and then I decide that hitting myself in the head with a cast iron skillet every day for six years sounds like a far more satisfactory course of action.
