Ummm, maybe another stupid question!

All good and well if you're here to see gladiatorial spectacles. But when serious answers are needed, it's just messing with peoples' lives.

When serious answers are needed, you do your research (using mainly documents from USCIS), and if you're incapable of doing research, you hire a professional. VJ is a free site of users, not professionals. There are many knowledgeable people on here, but they're not professionals, nor is anyone obligated to help anyone else. Inaccurate advice is given out freely, along with correct and very useful advice. That's the nature of the site. One of the major challenges of using a site like this is using your own judgment. If you misunderstand the nature and purpose of a site like this to the point where it's "messing with your life," you might need to take a different approach to the whole enterprise.

Joyce is absolutely correct. Since many of us are not professionals it serves us all well to take criticism and correction in the good-will with which it is intended. Unfortunately some are unable to accept criticism when they are wrong, ignore it and blithely move into another thread and give bad advice in an authoritative way.

We would all like this forum to be a better place, with more accurate information, more community and definitely more thoughtful answers. A message board, by nature, is often a place of opinion rather than fact. What is often seen as criticism or harshness is usually just an attempt to improve the quality of information here, keep it tidy and unrestricted by a wealth of poorly researched advice. It's really important that people do that otherwise you really will be messing with peoples' lives. In this sense, and many other ways, Julez has been one of the most helpful members on this board.

Maven, I certainly hope this is a joke. I've known you a few years now and you've never struck me as the subservient type. Please pull yourself together, woman.

Well, it just so happens that I got a copy of "The Surrendered Wife" in the post the other day (unmarked, but from Amazon.co.uk) and I think the way forward for me has to be to give up the superwoman schtick and give myself completely to my man.star_smile.gif

KIDDING! I am my old ball-bustin' self.

Since when is a 'touch' a serious issue?

Reading more than talking on a forum like this is beneficial to anyone going through this process. I am encouraged that Melissa agreed to do more of that after asking a basic question. A lot of things like this are answered in the Definitions/acronyms section as well as the pinned topics, guides and FAQs.

Thank you, Tracy. :) I really don't want to be too annoying with my questions. I hope I can still come and ask some more. :)

I'd say you're handling the feedback quite graciously.

You'd shudder if I told you some of the things said to me my first week on VJ when I asked what Advanced Parole was. And this was AFTER I had read the K1 guide (which I stated in my post). Posting on the internet and having a thick skin, I've found, need to go hand in hand.

Thanks! I am trying to focus on the constructive feedback and not on the attacks, whether they are serious or just joking around (like Maven!). :)

Well let's see now. Had the question just been answered, this thread would be exactly 2 posts long. 3 if Melissa remembered to post a 'thank you.' But because the self-appointed internet police must have their say, it goes on and on. So what is more 'tidy,' a 'frequent' question that is asked and answered, or the inanity of the internet police lecturing us all on how a question must be asked properly and to their satisfaction? You Americans are always on about your personal freedoms and whatnot, so I say let freedom ring: serve the internet police their redundancy notices so the rest of us can get on with our lives.

Julian, admit it, you're deriving some pleasure from these interactions otherwise you wouldn't contribute further and simply get on with your life. So, I say let freedom ring and allow all sides to continue batting one another around for the pleasure of your audience. You have at least one adoring fan. Be happy!

Thus speaketh one of the aforementioned internet police. It would of course be in your best interest to keep the status quo, wouldn't it?

I derive pleasure from people who respond to a simple question with a simple answer. Drama does not amuse me, results do.
