Hi Guys and Gals,

So I'm now in the U.S. (I need to update and change my time line)

Just a couple of questions. Firstly, what is my Visa Number? I see control number and some others. I read somewhere that the "Visa Number" is the number written in red, is that correct?

Secondly, Alien Number... So I saw it's in my visa printed, great. But when I went through immigration in JFK I was messed about and had to go between two different people ( not sure if that's usual ) but they were quite rude which I guess is usual? Anyway, the second person who finished processing me said the first person didn't know his job and messed up the alien number which he said he corrected and wrote it in my visa and on the I-94. Now I didn't really understand and was very tired and annoyed at how rude they were so I just smiled and said thanks. But after looking now I've had some rest I see the number the FIRST person wrote was the same as is in my visa. The number the second person wrote (who said the first messed up) changed the number, so now the one he wrote which is the one he said I should use has one number different in it. Has this ever happend to anyone else? I would of thought the number printed on my visa would be correct? This has worried me now.

Thanks for any help.

Shane

Please see the AOS thread in my signature, it should help you out.

Alien number. Check your NOA2 from your K1 above the beneficiaries name THAT is your alien number. Mine on my passport and written on my I-94 were the same as that number. If yours are different, trust the NOA2.

I will check out the AOS thread in your signature tomorrow, thanks.

Is the NOA2 the letter my fiancee (the us citizen) received telling her that the NVC has received an approved I-129f??? If so then I have that here and it only has a INS receipt number and my case number, I see no Alien number. So I'm guessing this is the NOA2 or we never received a NOA2 and got this instead?

Thanks for any help.

The NOA2 is the letter the USC received stating the petition was approved and would be forwarded to NVC. It's the letter BEFORE the NVC letter. There's an example in my AOS thread in my signature.

Thanks, that was helpful. I asked my fiancee last night and she said she's pretty sure the NOA2 is in Vermont with her parents. She had everything sent to her home in Vermont as she's only living in NYC until this Tuesday so we didn't want any trouble having things forwarded and getting lost. So hopefully it's safe in Vermont.

So you think it's safer to stick with the alien number on the NOA2? Do you think I should call somewhere to find out? It's a shame the immigration officers were so unhelpful and rude.

Thanks again for your help.

Definitely safer to at least find out what it is because unfortunately USCIS aren't perfect and they're known to stuff up. If it's the same as the one on your Visa (which it should be) then you'll know for sure. The NOA2 is automatically generated so the A number on that should be the one in their system.

If you can't get to the paperwork (or have someone else do it) then I would write the number on the passport. Remembering that you will need to check the NOA2 at some stage and then call USCIS to correct it if it's wrong. Happened to someone I know and when he went to his biometrics (after he corrected it) it was STILL wrong so he had to have it corrected there.
