We didn't pay anything extra for police report & got it the same day (last October).

With the recent events that is certain to change, but others who have done it recently should come forward.

Best of luck!

My fiancee and I just went to the police clearance place in Bangkok a couple of days ago. No problems at all, very quick. She lives in Chiang Mai so they'll just mail it to her within 2 weeks they said. They couldn't do it same day.

Everyone there was very friendly and helpful

I posted a question on the embassy facebook wall and I am anxious to see what their answer is.

I think the AP process has changed since some of you had your interviews. The have been asking for more documents or proof of relationship and then putting people in AP and giving them their passports back

and telling them they will notify them. It's almost as if they don't want to be bothered with taking care of it right away and put it on the back burner until they get around to it. It's unfortunate they

take so long and make it hard for people to make plans!!

Kari, I'd really love to be able to get a firsthand look at what they do back there behind closed doors!!! Too bad I couldn't arrange a Congressional visit!!! I'd love to send them a case of cut open durian

for the offices back there!!!!

Interesting link:

http://immigrate2us.net/forum/showthread.php?74556-admin-processing-221%28g%29-since-apr-20th&highlight=221g

Seems over there on that website they consider AP and 221g the same thing.

Here is what her 221g said:

"This office regrets to inform you that it is unable to issue a visa to you because you have been found ineligible to receive a visa under section 221(g)of the INA which prohibits the issuance of a visa to anyone whose application does not comply with the provisions of the INA or regulations issued pursuant thereto. Further consideration will be given to your visa application after you obtain and present the documents listed below. (only the marked sections apply to you."

The two boxes checked were the evidence box, and the other box pertaining to the IRS stuff.

Of course I freaked out and sent them an email.

This is exactly what the embassy sent me in response to an email I sent them:

During the interview, the applicant submitted only 5 photos, some money

transfers, 2 cards. Your 2007 income is above the poverty guidelines,

but the consular officer has noted an IRS lien of 11K from JUN 2008,

which would bring the income to below poverty guidelines. Thus, in

order to process the case, the applicant needs to submit more

substantial evidence of relationship and information about the lien.

Regards,

Correspondence Unit

So I overcame both of those issues, and she got the visa. That's why I'm kinda scratching my head on this AP thing because they don't say anything. They just say we'll let you know. Looking back I'm glad I got the 221g instead of AP, because at least I knew what they wanted and gave it to them. Seems like AP is some kind of black hole with no explanation.

Also, by the way she submitted more than they listed. We had joint bills at an address in Bangkok, alot of phone bills, and some other stuff. At the time it seemed they were basing proof on PHOTOS.

This is exactly what the lawyer said happens, and to insist for them to look at the documents right away. We did get a 221g, and they were just going to take our stuff and get back to us, the attorney insisted we would wait while they reviewed our documents. She had said if they take the paperwork without an answer that day, it sometimes takes months for them to back to you. We waited 3 hours that day while the Consular's where in a meeting.

While the 221g is not the exact same as being thrown right into AP, I think it can be the same if when they collect the paperwork, they send you away and put the paperwork in the same pile as AP.

Our 221g said we could come back on any Monday or Wednesday to submit the paperwork between 1-3 pm. I'm glad they didn't just take it and then get back to us. I was with her when she submitted the extra paperwork. The let me in the embassy for that. Maybe my being there helped. Hard to say.

I think you might be on to something with the bolded statement. I'm not an attorney, but made my presence known in a nice way.

This is the question I posted in the embassy facebook page: Can we assume that you will give the same priority to AP cases that you are giving to the visa interviews since everything was delayed due to the amout of time you were closed?

This was their response: Tom, we are very sorry that the our unexpected closure caused a disruption in Consular services. We realize that thousands of people were affected, and our Consular team has been working hard to deal with the backlog. Our priority indeed is to accommodate those individuals whose cases were impacted by our inability to provide services during the closure. We appreciate your post!

With a guy running immigration services with the last name of Looney, no wonder it's a mess over there trying to get a visa.

I sure wish I had known Teaw could have insisted she wait for them to review the approx 500 pages of stuff she took back to them along with almost 100 photos and other stuff when she did it. Maybe we wouldn't be

waiting in AP now for them to get off their butts.

All Thailand people. Based on Kari's signature, it looks like her "Husby" will be interviewing on Tuesday, June 8, 2010.

Kari has been a big help and a solid friend to all the Thai ladies trying to get through Bangkok. Can we all please send positive thoughts for a good interview for her husband without problems.

Thanks and Good luck to Kari and Husby.
