hello there, does anyone know of a professional translation service for a personal document. my husband's best friend (thai) and his wife(usc) are having difficulties in their marriage and she has written a letter to him that she would like translated into thai for full comprehension and my husband doesn't feel comfortable or knowledgable enough. it is VERY sensitive information. any help is appreciated.

good luck on your journies all!

I know this is for 2010...but on average, how long did it take you all to get your NOA2?

Sawadee Krap! My name is Gary and I am awaiting my K-1, and now 5.5 months at VSC. I am traveling back to BKK soon, 5 trips since December 2010 and LOVE it there. Frankly I do not want to live in the US any longer and my fiancée' is fine staying in Thailand, so we are looking at a way for me to go there. Since I am not 50 years old yet (43 this month-yikes), no retirement visa, so I might have to start some type of business to move there legally. I wanted to live here so she could get my social security in case I die before her, but maybe it is not to be. Personally, I REALLY prefer Thailand over the USA and this wait and they way they treat Americans doing this legally sickens and angers me beyond belief. Anyhow, 5.5 months+ is my worthless $.02 and if anyone wants to practice Thai with me all the better. I am still basic, but can get sentences and such out so long as they are really basic.

While illegals invade the USA and get free benefits, we wait paying fees and filling out forms while the illegals fill out zero-thank you US politicians!

Waiting on interview now in BKK, started Jan 2011

You might want to "experience" Thailand a bit more before you decide to leave the U.S. in favor of Thailand. I can assure you that you will not have less problems in Thailand, compared to the U.S. Moving to Thailand may be a viable option for those looking to retire, but for those looking for a better life, look elsewhere. Do some rudimentary research about life in Thailand for foreign business owners as well as foreigner rights in Thailand and you will start to see my point.

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

Depends. I agree with a literal reading of RSN's final sentence, but if you don't need to worry about money, or if you can find a Thai employer that pays well, this is a FANTASTIC place to live and they treat you quite well. I spend 4-5 months per year here and 7-8 in the US and I definitely prefer here and I could give at least 10 reasons.

Visa runs can be annoying, but if you go by air, they can be fun and they force you to do things you might otherwise never get around to doing.

You don't need to deal with visa runs if you are married to a Thai citizen. Simply apply for a Non-O visa and then extend after 90 days for 1 year. It appears to be further extendable in 1 year increments.

I do not need to work anymore going there, so not some of the regular issues associated with making money. I only have been there 2+ months since December, but I am done with the USA regrdless. I am familiar with foreigner's rights, or lack thereof, purchasing land, et cetera so we are on the same page. I am thinking of getting a place in the country, growing a lot of our own food and just chilling out with my love relaxing. I do see your points hands down on some issues, so not like you are blowing smoke at all and I do appreciate all the posts on here. I might however get a small business so I can get a business visa there, but I don't care about making money, just something to show them is all as I do not want to do visa runs. Anyhow, heading there again very soon and will update as things progress on my end and look forward to seeing other Thai/Farangs post on this thread too.

As long as you don't actually need to LIVE off the food you grow, it sounds like you have a good plan. Personally, I could never live in the Thai countryside--give me a high rise condo in Bangkok with a view any day... damn, I love this place.

Good idea. B is easier to get, but once you have it, O would be easier to deal with... what do you need to take in to get the extension?

By the way, you do realize that it is a complete waste of time to apply for a permanent resident card for your wife if you plan to move back to Thailand soon (and before she becomes a US citizen)...

O was pretty easy for me to get. It was back in 2006, maybe things have changed. Spent one night in Singapore and I got it. I had to make a visa run every 3 months to Cambodia. I'm actually not sure I even needed to do that. I've heard that you can just check in with immigration.

Is there any rhyme or reason to the appointment dates? I see case numbers similar to ours on the embassy website for interviews in July but was told ours may be 6-8 weeks from the time they received packet 3 which was June 20. Thanks.

Just got interview date of 31 August. So about 9 weeks from the time we sent in Packet 3.

I want to apologize in advance if this is not perfect - it was difficult for my wife to translate this out of context but here it goes:

Vishu,

Are you online? Do you want to say something...ha ha ha?

When is he coming back? I'm waiting to punch him. Tell him if he's a good fighter to come back and fight with me again.

Are you serious or are you just being a big mouth sweet heart?

No. This is America so we must say it and make Americans scared.

He is not your Facebook friend?

No he is not.

Vishu
