Congrats Daryl and Jeep.

Just when I thought I had packet 3 figured out I have some questions. For the I-134 do I only need last years transcripts(2009 since it is not April 18 yet, I plan on emailing 2010 transcripts as soon as I can get them)? Also is the application fee of $131 the last thing I have have to pay for until AOS or is there something else I will have to pay at the embassy?

Does she need to sign the DS-230 Part 1, DS-157, DS-156k when she sends in packet 3? Or does she leave them unsigned and sign at the embassy?

I have some questions on the DS-156 as well.

26. How long do you intend to stay in the US? Don't know what to put

27. What is the purpose of your trip? To marry my fiance Andy?

28. Who will pay for your trip? My fiance Andy and I?

32. Do you intend to work in the US? I would say no because she cannot with a k-1 but in the future after AOS she wants to work.

Thanks for any input people have. Sorry I have so many questions.

I hope everyone here has this good news soon..........thank you to all the members here for

your kindness and help in this process.

Daryl & Jeep

Congratulations on a job well done. Wish you guys a speedy trip back to the U.S.

We've got an interview coming up pretty soon, and my fiance is a bit nervous (mostly about the English required). When you get done celebrating, it'd be great to hear some details of your experience.

Let me give it a shot, please someone correct if needed.

I provided the last 3 years tax returns, I think they only require the last available years. (2009 now)

The application fee is 10500 BHT, to be paid at Thai Post. Nothing to pay at embassy.

Yes, sign all forms that are sent in with Packet 3. The only one I think she signs at the embassy is DS-230 Part 2.

Look at Sample Forms for common form responses. Very helpful.

the interview does not have to be conducted in english it can definitely be done in thai, they may be concerned with how the two of you communicate but she can speak thai. good luck!

First thanks for all the congrats on our approval.

Jeep will be arriving on the 1st of March, due to some unforseen circumstances I was not able to fly over

untill later so she decided to fly here by herself rather than wait.

Here are a few of the questions she was asked.

1. My age

2. When did we meet.

3. How long we lived together in Thailand.

4. Was I ever married before

5. What was my previous wife's names (was married 2 times before)

6. When was the Divorce dates.

7. My kids names and there ages

8. What is the State and City I live in.

9. Have I met her parents and do they like me.

In all Jeep said she asked about 19 questions and it took about 15 Min. for the interview. Over all Jeep said the

lady was very friendly and looked at our pictures ( we had about 40 or so from living together and trips along with

MSN video chat).

She arrived at 6:30am for her interview which the letter said 7am but there were 3 other lady's there for K1 interviews

so she didn't get interviewed untill 11am as she was 3rd in the process. Jeep has a Degree as a English Teacher so her english

is fairly fluent. I bring this up as she noticed that the counsel lady seemed very aggitated if the lady's could not answer

in english. Of the 4 that interviewed that day 2 were approved 2 denied. One of the lady's used a company that has an office

across the road from the Embassy that tout they are a Law Firm dealing with Visa's. I know this Firm very well and they are not

Lawyer's but just a Visa sham. This lady that used them was denied as they did not provide her with her medical or x-ray's along

with other documents..Jeep waited for her and felt very sad that this happened to her.

Hope this of some help to others about to be interviewed.....Again Thanks

Thanks for the info on the interview process Daryl and I hope Jeep has a good flight over to America. I hope she realizes how cold it is up in your neck of the woods right now....she's going to freeze! My roommates wife from Thailand has been in California for over a year now and still walks around in the house with a fur collared jacket on when the thermostat is set at 70 degrees.

Jeep and my fiancee Egg became good friends during the visa process and they currently talk on the phone every day. Jeep has been really good at calming Egg's fear for her up coming interview (which is next Thursday on March 3rd) by explaining the process to her. Thai's have great memories so remembering details and dates are fairly easy for her (she knows and remembers more about me than I do!) I think her biggest concern is her use of the English language. I told her that the person doing the interview will be fluent in English and Thai so if she doesn't understand a question have them repeat it in Thai. I think as long as she can show that we (Egg and I) can communicate in English, it should be no problem.

Hope the rest of your visa journey goes as smooth as the first part and hope we can keep in touch when the girls are both here in America.

Hi Andy,

Yes Egg and Jeep have become very good friends over the course of the last couple of months and hope it will continue after they are both here. I am sure

Egg will do just fine at the interview and that was Jeep's plan also if she didn't understand a question to have it repeated in Thai.

Jeep is excited to see snow but I keep telling her seeing is one thing......living in it is another..LOL

I hope we can meet in the near future as we do plan on doing some travel this summer so she can see some of the US other than just pictures of it.

Wishing You and Egg the Very Best Wishes in your up coming Interveiw.

Best wishes to you Daryl & Jeep!

I just returned home from another trip to Thailand (Rayong) to see my fiancee. Upon my return I found the letter from the NVC telling me that the package was received and will be forwarded to the embassy in BKK. I have not received a reply (email) from the embassy as to whether they have received it yet or not.

So my fiancee is scheduled to go to BKK on the 2nd of March to meet with the lawyer and get the medical exam done and police certificate. She is supposed to help my fiancee fill out the paperwork for the packet 3... so I'm hoping no worries there.

WARNING: Lot of info here. I appreciate anybody who can wade through it though.

I have concerns about the I-134 affidavit of support though and I hope you guys can give me some feedback.

~~~ I was recently laid off from one of my employers (two jobs) and I don't start full time for the other one till tuesday! Even then I will be above the poverty line, I just won't have many paycheck stubs to show.
QUESTION: How many paycheck stubs will they want to see for this? Her interview date has not been set btw. She has yet to get the med exam, police cert and what not. Do I have enough time?
~~~ I have not yet filed my taxes for 2010. I know I am going to owe a little bit of money. The tax statement will show that I made WELL ABOVE the poverty line, but I will more than likely owe a little bit.

~~~ My 2009 tax return shows very little in taxable income... because I was in a combat zone. Problem is... the tax return itself does not show. Don't know why and I wasn't paying attention at the time. I DO however have the W2 and I DO have my deployment orders which show I was deployed for all of 2009. I would be willing to send these in to prove such.
QUESTION: Do I file the 2010 to show well above poverty line (even though I think I'll owe) or do I wait on that and send in the 2009, 2008, 2007 tax returns with the DEP orders showing I was deployed (non-taxable income)? *2008 & 2007 WELL ABOVE poverty line.
~~~ I have a bank statement showing I am in good standing but there isn't a whole lot sitting in savings right now. I have been meaning to sell some high value items that I don't use anymore that would remedy this... but I just haven't done it yet.

QUESTION: Should I sell what I have been meaning to and make the deposits and ask for ANOTHER statement showing a higher balance? How much do they want to see in savings for the I-134?

QUESTION: Is it the embassy personnel (doing the interview) that looks at the I-134 affidavit and other documents she prepares or somebody else prior to?

Thanks for the info.. I know it's over load.

My fiancee just got back from her interview. Everything went smoothly, she and the CO had a 5 minute conversation, mostly about pictures. At the end, the CO said that the interview was done, and she approves the visa.

...HOWEVER...

My fiancee is 8 months pregnant. First they said they wanted to delay her visa for 6 months! My fiancee told them that was too far in the future, we had plans much sooner than that. So instead, they told her to come back anytime in the next 6 months, after having the baby, to receive her visa and to file birth abroad papers.

What really bothers me however is, she also got a 221g form. The wording is definitely troublesome, basically states she's been found ineligible. However, they checked "Other" and put "Please drop off your passport when you are ready to travel."

Should I be worried? So we just go back and ask them to put the visa in since she definitely will be flying within the next 6 months? What if the CO is transferred out of Bangkok before we go back in with the baby...does this "agreement" still hold?

It seems like this is all spelled out in the "Other" box text field.

Egg went for her interview yesterday and………we now have our visa approval!!!

She arrived an hour early and was 1st in line to enter the Embassy, but apparently they schedule the interviews based on the case number not when you arrive or sign in, so out of eight interviews she was number seven! It was about 11:00 am when she finally left the Embassy and could call me. She said the waiting room was very crowded (several people standing) so being the 1st in allowed her to pick a seat up front where she could hear the names called and also she did not have to stand.

She said her interview lasted about 15 minutes and the female Consulate Officer (CO) asked her a little over 20 questions.

Egg’s greatest interview fear was her use of the English language, especially understanding the questions given to her in English. She feared the worst when the 1st question was “can your fiancé speak Thai?” and “how do you talk to him?” She answered “little bit” and “we talk in English”. She was then told to answer all the questions in English, but if she didn’t understand the question to ask for it to be repeated in Thai and she said, the falang CO could speak pretty good Thai.

Apparently the interview is given at a window in a big open room similar to a bank teller window where you speak through an opening in the glass. Egg said she had a difficult time understanding and hearing the questions as the CO had a kind of a quiet voice and there was a lot of “room noise” from other people talking.

She said overall the CO was very friendly and smiled a lot and kind of joked with her during the whole interview and did repeat or rephrase the questions for her in Thai if she didn’t understand them. One of our initial I-129 photos we submitted was of an embroidering that Egg had done showing a female Indian and male cowboy holding hands with the caption “Egg loves Andy’. Apparently the CO either liked embroidering or the fact that Egg went to the trouble of making it, as she asked several questions at the start of the interview about the photo and seemed to really enjoy it. I’m just really glad I included it as one of our original 17 photos.

As best as she could remember them, the following are the questions she was asked:

1) Can your boyfriend speak Thai?

2) How do you talk to him (English or Thai)?

3) What’s your fiancés name?

4) How old is he?

5) How old are you?

(Note: I’m 62 and Egg is 32 she said the CO had no problem with age difference)

6) What kind of work does he do? And what work do you do?

(She is currently unemployed and works for the “Andy Company”)

7) Where does he live (State and City)? Do you like where he lives?

8) How did you meet your fiancé? (she was in Pattaya visiting her friend/neighbor who was dating my friend, who I was visiting at the same time)

9) How do you know your friend? (grew up together, neighbor from village)

10) When did you both meet for the first time? How long did you meet and where?

11) When was the last time you both met? For how long? And where?

12) How many times has he been to Thailand? (9 total, last 2 trips to see Egg)

13) How do you contact him when he is in America? (we don’t use the phone much, mainly talk on Skype, we submitted Skype logs and screenshot photos of us talking online).

14) Did he marry before? (I was previously married twice) When last divorced?

15) How many children does he have? (none) How many children do you have? (none) Egg said the CO acted surprised that she did not have children and even asked her twice.

16) When will your fiancé come back to Thailand again?

17) Have you ever been outside of Thailand before? (no)

She said the CO then left and then came back with a white slip of paper with a date and time and said “come back in 7 days to pick up your visa”

And that was it!

I’m researching flights now and will probably go over in a few weeks and bring her back with me.

This portion of our journey was made a lot easier thanks to the people and information on this forum. Egg also got a lot of help and info from the Thai equivalent “usvisa4thai.com” forum.

Congrats!!! The age difference really doesn't matter to them at the embassy. I think they understand why the ladies like the older men. I am 62 and Teaw is 34 and they never asked about that. We will be in Thailand 3-12 to 27 and part of the time in Buriram for the wedding party for the family. Enjoy your new life together!!
