They likely won't even let you in the building during the scheduled interview times.

They should if you have an appointment...

assuming you can get an appointment during visa interview hours. It's my understanding that this is not possible.

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

I think that was in the past. USC services opens at 7:30 AM now.

Hello again,

Could someone let me know if it's a good idea to go with my fiance to the interview or not? I know I won't be able to go in with her now, but I just want someones take if they see that as good/bad/makes no difference if I'm there or not. I would love to go with her, believe me, but I'd like someone to say yes or no about this. Sorry to be a pain.... I know it's a ways off too!

Thank you.

I know the CO took notice of my passport during my wife's interview. No way to say for sure if it helped or not though. It may make a difference. Be sure to give her your passport to show the CO. If you can afford it, it may also be hepful for moral support reasons.

Thank you. I told her I would go, but she insists she'll be ok with her friend. (I'll tell her that they'll be someone there to help with Thai and that her friend can't be in with her) I did want to go to support her, but that was before I knew I couldn't go in with her. However now I'll be re-thinking if I'll go again. A question about my passport though. Why would I have to send her my passport if I didn't go with her? Do they really need that after all the paperwork we've given up to that point?

Thank you again.

Handing her your passport to show the clerk and/or CO was just a suggestion. This isn't a must-have. I had my wife bring in my passport just to show that I was outside waiting for her. Logically, that suggests that I am more likely to be serious about the relationship in the CO's eyes, but I don't know for sure if they see it that way. I think the best reason to be in Thailand for her interview is for moral support, and to accompany her back to the U.S.

They don't NEED it for sure. Some people just like to go. I didn't go, and Ann (yes, her parents actually named her Joanna...) didn't have my passport. Still, the interview seemed like a formality and they just joked around with her for half an hour and then approved the visa. This is probably a minor issue, unless she needs moral support. In your case, it sounds like she's ok with going by herself. Personally, I'd let that dog lie.

Everyone's right on their own ideas on what might or might not help. Since you cannot go in with her and would have to wait outside, you can save the money of flying over and if for some reason it does not get approved and put into a holding status because they need some document or documents, you will not be freaking out about not being able to bring her back. If she is so sure she will be fine, then I'd let her go by herself and stay home. If you just make sure she has all the pictures of you two together in Thailand, all the information from trips...basically everything you have sent in with the I-129 PLUS all chats, phone records, email, snail mail....everything that relates to your relationship since filing the I-129 for her to give to them, then she should be just fine. Then once it's approved you can plan a nice trip over and she has time to get her life squared away and ready to come back with you.

Something to be careful about!!! If you go over and have bought her ticket to come back with you, if she gets delayed for some reason, you are stuck with a ticket you probably can't get refunded. They warn people over and over DO NOT MAKE PLANS to fly to the USA until you have the visa in hand!! And that is certainly good advice. Teaw and I got delayed and she had to reinterview but I stayed here in the US until they approved the visa and then we made plans on when to go get her so she could give notice at her work, spend time with her family, notify the people in her apt. bldg, etc. She was all pretty much ready to go when I got over there and that was real nice not having to try to do it all in a rush right after the visa was approved. Trying to get pages added to your passport just so you can be in the same room, if they even let you in then, might be just a waste of time. The chances of you getting the same time as her is a ####### shoot!!

On another note, this thread for Thai fiancees is a great place to ask questions. Most of us have been through the process, either quickly or with delays, and there is a lot of good advice you can get in here.

Thank you everyone! Lots of good advice. I'll go back to my thoughts that as long as she has everything that was prepared for I 129F, plus everthing since, she'll be ok. I didn't think I'd have to mail my passport over to her... I would love to be there, but she wants me to save money and like I've said, she says she'll be fine. Which I know she will. She even says she'll be fine flying over by herself once everything is set. She is also very stubborn too! : ) We'll see about that though..

You wouldn't want to send your passport over. If you are not there, don't pretend you are, anything could happen at the interview and you never know if the CO would call you in if she had your passport, and then if you weren't there, that would be even bigger problems.

In my case I was able to go in and talk to the CO when I we got the "need more info" slip. I can understand why they don't want the us coming in for the interview. When I thanked the CO for talking to me, he said "I agreed to talk to you cause the girl said you were calm, and very polite". I can only imagine the yelling and screaming they have had to endure when the US citizen was let into the interview area. It is also a chance for the girl to back out without any pressure from the fiance, if she didn't want to go to the US.

Wanted to share our USCIS Horror story with you guys......

http://uscisfiasco.blogspot.com

I read your article and it is quite an unfortunate story. I hope things get resolved for you and your family soon. I would like to mention though, that Thailand has some world-class top-ranked hospitals that you may want to consider for your son. Bumrungrad in Bangkok is one such facility.

Bumrungrad, BNH, Param9, and Siraraj are all excellent, though the problem might be with his US-based medical insurance not being accepted in Thailand.

HAHA... BUT even that CAN help:

They couldn't get Ann's fingerprints because she basically has none (they've had the same problem in the US) and were going to delay her by a couple days to have a fingerprint expert come in and take them on paper. She gave the interviewer a sad puppy face and said, "But I already have a ticket..." He replied, "well... we can't base visa decisions on that..." and she kept looking at him with the sad face and he finally said, "oh... ok, I'll let USCIS deal with this when you get to the US..." and he actually passed her through without prints.

So, as you said, you never know what might help!
