Just got back from the one of the two hospitals in Bangkok for the medical exam, and something weird happened. Since my fiancee is pregnant, they said they did not require a chest x-ray. This was against everything I read in the past about the K1 visa process, so we asked why. I guess something happened before, and a pregnant woman who had the chest x-ray done had complications during childbirth and was born with sort of malformation. Anyhow, since then, they stopped giving X-Rays to women who are pregnant.

My question was then, does this fly with the U.S. Embassy. And the nurse's response was, "I'm not sure." How could she not be sure? She told me she doesn't remember the last pregnant woman who was applying for the K1 Visa, maybe it was a few years ago. Now, I have to imagine that just can't be true...

Obviously, our attempts to call the embassy to clear up the matter were for naught, and we left without the x-rays.

Anyhow, looking for anyone who's gone through the K1 Visa process with the US Embassy in Bangkok while pregnant. Did they require you to have a chest x-ray?

Added tidbit: another beautiful quote from our nurse today (paraphrased), "We don't only work with the US Embassy, we work with many countries. The doctor just can't remember what the requirements are for each."

My wife is an RN and she said that it is normal not to give an x-ray to a pregnant woman unless it is a life or death situation. Don't know what the embassy will think, but my guess is that they will excuse that and--possibly--make you get it after the baby is born.

Hope so. Thanks for the info, to you and your wife.

I've read that in some US Embassies (not necessarily Bangkok) they do require one, even during a pregnancy. The hospital uses a lead apron during the x-ray, but I'm not excited too about it, after hearing that story.

Hi Tom,

Congratulations. That is great news. Audy is wondering if you filled out the Form I-693 to transfer the vaccination records from the Thai doctor to the USCIS form?Maybe that is what USCIS needed, so there would not have been a misunderstanding.

I am a little surprised at the questions they asked Teaw. Audy didn't know any of those words either. I am also surprised he didn't seem interested in your photos. Did he ask questions or look at papers to see if you have comingled finances or billing accounts. Maybe provided medical insurance or added Teaw as a beneficiary to any policies?

Thanks and congrats again.

Thanks!!

I came prepared with tons of papers...birth certs, marriage cert, etc. He had two thick files..one that I believe was the I-129 and the other the I-485. He asked if I had any papers that showed comingled assets and all I had were the two bank statements from two different banks that showed her as co-owner of the accts. That's all I have put her on. I got her medical insurance but he didn't want to see her card or anything. He did take her new NC ID card and photocopy that. Asked if we were still at the same address, if I still had the same job, asked about the phone number on the app which I told him was Teaw's number. Asked her how she liked American food and she said she didn't like it too much and liked Thai food better. He laughed and talked to her a little bit about how spicy she likes it. And just some normal chit chat about nothing important. He seemed to have made up his mind right away. He brought up the shot deal saying that was all he needed fixed. He set up an appt. to bring the new paper back and said if you get it done sooner, bring it in and try to get up to see him. I told him we were leaving 3-12 back to Thailand and he did the appt for 3-8. But when I asked him if I could come back that day if we got it done, he said sure, if we could get there before 3:30pm.

We did not fill out any form or transfer her shot record. This was the form that the dr. doing her exam in Thailand filled out and screwed up on. Teaw had a copy of it and I never noticed the check mark on it. It's the US Dept of State vaccination documentation worksheet filled out by her examining dr. for the visa. He checked the Tdap shot as insufficient time interval, whatever that means, and that is what they were concerned about. Most of them were checked not age appropriate and the other two were checked completed series. She only needed 3...Tdap, MMR and Varicella. The civil surgeon here said the doc should have just left it blank and he obviously screwed up because her shot record had it in there good for 10 years to 2020. So if Audy can see the copy that the dr. filled out, have her make sure there are not insufficient time intervals on there. The doc here said only two ways to fix it that the govt would accept....have the doc in Thailand fix it or get the shot again. So of course, the quickest think is to get the shot, which we did, and had to pay for it.

Hello,

I'm not sure if I should've started another topic or reply here. I'm a recent member and have asked a few questions in the general forums. Next week my K 1 will be ready to submit. My question is, when it comes to the interview, do I have to accompany my fiance to it in Thailand? I said I'd come with her when it's time, but she said she'll bring her friend, as she knows English, and my fiance is still learning (taking an English course now). I'd like to go with her and will if it's frowned upon if I don't, but I wanted to get some members opinions on this, especially the ones who have gone to the embassy in Bangkok.

Thank you.

They won't let you in the embassy with your fiance, I also doubt they will let your Fiance bring a friend in with her. They have a thai person that helps the CO and translates if your fiance is not that good with english. With that being said, you can wait outside for her, and giver her your passport to show the CO that you are there waiting.

Aaron is right. You cannot go in with your fiancee, nor anyone else. They will ask her if she wants to do the interview in English or Thai. Just make sure she has all the documents that they might ask for.

I see now. I'll have to tell her that. Will they frown upon if I don't go with her and wait? Or does it matter to them? I'd love to go so we can see each other, but she says she'll be fine: ) And at that point, we'd hopefully be closer to seeing each other for good!

Thank you too. So it seems that it might be a good idea that I plan on a trip to Thailand for the interview?

Just to make sure she has everything when she goes in.

Unless you happen to need visa pages at the same time... the waiting room happens to be the same place. :)

They likely won't even let you in the building during the scheduled interview times.

such a shame the usc can no longer go inside for the interview. it was nice to be there for moral support for my now husband. ironically we had a lawyer for the k-1 piece who insisted i must go or he would not be approved. the only reason i didn't want to was i had only recently started a new job. turned out well when i approached my boss he was AWESOME and insisted i go and said take what time i needed. that's why 4 years later i'm still here.

/rambling off

good luck all!
