Enjoy this exchange rate while it lasts.

By next summer It should be around 24:1 if the Fed gets its way.

Pretty much where it was before the collapse of 97.

Done for 3 years or 10 years. Haven't decided yet.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

I'm not sure "enjoy" is the right word to use. It's at about 29 down from about 33 5 months ago.

K1: 01/15/2009 (mailed I-129F) - 06/23/2009 (visa received)

AOS: 08/08/2009 (mailed I-485, I-765, & I-131) - 10/29/2009 (received GC)

I know, I was there all summer, but barring a catastrophe in Thailand or a sudden reversal in Fed policy, you are unlikely see that again for a while... though it is up above 30 today.

Was in Chicago for Thanksgiving week. When we returned we had a letter for Teaw's biometrics in mid December. So I assume it's just fingerprints and photos. Anything else they might do?

Around Thursday the week before we got and RFE wanting more proof of income. I guess they cannot read the K-1 income stuff and want all the same stuff all over again!! I sent income tax

transcripts with the I-485 and all that stuff. Geez, I guess it's asking too much for these people to read what they already have!!! They wanted a year of bank statememts, last year's tax

return, letter from employer with all kinds of stuff in it...although nothing has changed with our salary since we haven't gotten a raise in 3 years cause of the economy. So I have all the

stuff ready to go...except I have not heard back from the head honcho about the letter I need...arggghhhhh!!! Delays, delays. I am sure he was around all last week but he is supposed to be

in our courthouse Monday so I'll pounce on him and get his butt in gear!!!

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving!!!

Is this thread DEAD or what???? Nobody writes in here anymore?

Yes this thread has been quiet. I've been very busy with my wedding, honeymoon, reception. etc. but I'll post updates soon. I hope those still waiting for their interview are doing well - I know the holidays can be difficult when you're apart and waiting on the government.

Mike

I can understand that but all the action with visas can't be that quiet!! We have our biometrics Thursday and then just wait for interview dates...again. That should be interesting. Look forward to your updates about your wedding, etc. We found the local Thai buddhist temple and the embassy people from Wash, DC will be there Saturday to do stuff for any Thais that need it.

We submitted Packet 3 on November 3 and are just waiting for an appointment date. For some reason the Packet was sent to Chiang Mai for processing but now it's in the interview queue. We decided to wait until April for her to come over as I didn't want her first taste of US weather to be in the dead of winter (plus it gives me the chance to see what Songkran is all about). As long as we have the visa by then, everything is fine. I was just over to see her for a couple weeks around Thanksgiving. We ended up in Sukhothai for Loy Krathong, which was nice. I got my first (and hopefully last) experience with the Thai rail system, too.

We sent in Packet 3 on Nov. 10th and are anxiously awaiting an interview date.

How did you manage to track the progression of your Packet 3 (Chiang Mai, interview queue etc.)?

Also, we would greatly appreciate if you would let us know when you hear abt an interview date. I'm planning on going over just before the interview, staying for 2 wks, before returning with my fiancee. I'm concerned abt the timing of the notification relative to the interview date - and having to buy a plane ticket and make other arrangements for the trip.

You're going to love Songkran! I was there last year and it was great. One word of advice - bring a waterproof camera for that day as there are some great pics to be had.

Congrats Eric and Off. Just make sure she is very prepared for the interview. If there is anything you think you left out of the stuff you mailed in with the application, have her take it for the interview. Remember, you are not allowed to be there for the interview..you have to wait outside...so she is on her own.

Kaiser, does your fiancee live closer to Chiang Mai than BKK? Maybe that's why it was sent up there but good luck on getting a date soon.

Eric - My lawyer, who was hired long before I found this site but has been somewhat helpful (just not economical), has been at the embassy at least once a week since the submission and they have been keeping him updated on my case. He told me last week he talked directly with an officer and I was in the queue for an interview date. I am glad to hear you got your interview date and best of luck on it.

Tom - she is in Samut Prakan, which I believe is as close to Bangkok as you can get without technically being in Bangkok, so I have no idea why it was sent up country. Everything is going through the lawyer's office on Silom anyway. Back in July the USCIS told my lawyer that my I-129F was sent from Vermont to California for some reason and was not approved until it was later sent back to Vermont, so at this point I'm just expecting this kind of nonsense.

Kaiser, they probably sent it to Calif. so it could be worked up. The apparently do that when there are too many cases in one place. It seems to happen like that often. Then it goes back to the original office. Maybe they are so busy in BKK that they are sending some cases to CM to be processed to make sure everything is there and they need nothing additional and then they do the interview in BKK. That would make sense too. With the holidays and all, both Thai and US that they close for, that may be the reason. But hey, it's the feds so what do you expect???

On another note, a friend in Chicago took his wife to get her SSI and they would not issue it saying the I-94 was past the 90 days and they had to wait until she had a green card. I am wondering if anyone else had that happen. I would think you can get your SSI anytime as long as you show you were admitted here legally. Anyone know if that's true after the I-94 has expired? They waited to get married right before it expired.

hiya tom, yeah if the i-94 is expired or close to expiration the magic number seems to be around 14 days left the ssa will not issue the card and you do have to wait until you are approved for permanenet residence. as rare as it is, this time those jokers got it correct in the ssa office.
