Our company "approved" hotel is right across the street. Orchard Parade. Also Harry's is the best place to watch the action in and out. I could tell you some stories that would curl your toes about that building and what all I've see come and go but sounds like you have first hand experience???

If you want to see something, have you ever been to Indonesia??:help:

Check out the cafe on the corner inside the Marriott. Free wireless.

The first time I took my wife out of Thailand, I took her to Singapore. I had meetings all day for 3 days. She just sat in the hotel room. On the 3rd day I told her to go do/buy something. I got back to the hotel, and she was pi$$ed. She bought a shirt for 75 SGD, and then when she got back to the hotel and the tag said "Made in Thailand" I still crack up about that.

I tell you man, it has been a fun year watching her and how all this unfolds and doing all this stuff with her. Look, don't know if you ride Harleys or not but if you do, PM me. Sounds like we'll fit in. Got some big rallys up your way and north of you we'll be attending.

I don't even have a car at this point. (Long story that needs to be told over a beer) I work 1000 feet from where I live and the wife (Nok) goes shopping with her Thai friend. She still has the Thai mentality though. She thinks the US govt. just gives us free unlimited money.

You'll see. Have fun with that one. Also lock down the PPV channels. That last bill was a shocker.

I'm so glad you said that about the free money. I have accused her and her family of thinking all farang have money trees in the backyard. I'm serious too, the mentality of Thais and money blows me away. Thanks for the advice of PPV. Any more shocks to put on the calendar and radar??

Oh, in Texas, I like only cold beer, no particular brand.

When first arriving in Thailand, I considered it sacrilegious to place ice cubes in a glass of beer: It only took about 2 months of Chang and Sing-ha in 90+ degree evenings to convince me otherwise.

Before I got the iPhone I just bought a quad band phone on ebay. It cost about $30 and that was 5 years ago.

Just search ebay for "quad band phone". Some list it as a "world phone". I did a quick search and found some used BB 8800s for just over $50, so you should be able to do a lot better than that.

Looks like phones that will also work in Japan/S. Korea are a bit harder to find and generally much more expensive. World SIM cards generally have very poor roaming rates in the U.S. also. Add on shipping the phone to Thailand and I think this may not be an option I want to pursue. sad.gif

Just talked to her and Visa APPROVED!! Pick up in one week.

@AdamW

Congratulations.

I took Audy to the Embassy at about 6:10 am. She went in at 06:34. She finished at 11:15. PASSED!!!

She said there were three K-1s including her and two CR-1s which one might have been AdamW's wife. We had copied my passport entrance visa stamp and two used boarding passes to get to Bangkok this trip. The woman interview definitely asked Audy about my being there, why, how long I would stay and so on. I think it helped but according to Audy she had no real problem even though the interview was long.

I am very proud of Audy because she managed to pull off the entire interview in English. I think she did a great job.

Since there have not been any postings at all from Jordi, (gbagbo), I am afraid he and "Five" did not make it to their interview today, the 14th in Thailand.

Hi everyone, just a quick update. Five just finished her interview. I don't have all the details yet but everything went well. The person who interviewed Five said that they needed to talk/check with the US embassy in Malaysia before giving her the visa. They told her to come back next Tuesday. Five studied in Malaysia for 4 years and brought her police clearance certificate. I really don't know why they need to check the embassy there. Does anyone have any ideas why or what they want from there? I guess it's 50% good news. She was told everything was very good and that she should have her visa next week, but it's still not 100% done.

Five told me they asked a lot about our religions.

Anyway, good news I guess, unless something goes horribly wrong with Malaysia, which should not.

Wish I had some words of wisdom for you on that one but not quite sure about why they would speak to the embassy there. Also, I am wondering about the religions as well?? That is very odd for them to ask to me but maybe I don't know the entire story. They really zoomed in on my previous marriages and made sure my wife knew and kept asking her whey she would marry someone that has been married before. I thought it was strange but maybe not.

Also, does anyone know why they are taking a week to issue the visa rather than next day like they used to? Is this normal now at BKK??

I don't recall it ever being one day for K1's: Generally it was about three days. Could have to do with clearing the backlog since the closure or perhaps they have changed their procedure for printing.

Congratulations to those who passed. Get ready for a winter clothing shopping spree. Even my Northern wife was shocked by the cold.

They haven't been in the practice of issuing visas "the next day" for quite some time. I seem to remember others waiting around for a week for their passports, and we waited 4 days for ours over a year ago.

Congrats to everyone.
