The ones that threw the firebombs DID have jobs; they were PAID

to do that so the one(s) responsible for them being paid

should be held as accountable for terrorist crimes as they are.

As there is a fine line between "civil" and "political" crimes,

many will slip through the cracks in the ensuing judicial procedures.

One of my wife's reactions was "don't worry, they're insured,"

but there is also the price of insurance for the construction

projects that will attempt to repair the damage. Once the

construction has been completed, there will be HUGE premiums

for any of those sites because of the past history.

When I came to Thailand back in 2005 and we went to Phuket,

I was very impressed by the speed of the reconstruction and

the good humor of the survivors in that area. That was in

April 05. When something like a Tsunami hits it's a freak act

of nature, not something likely to be repeated again so

there was a lot of motivation to rebuild quickly. I'm not so

sure about this time around, but the people of Thailand

have most often surprised me in positive ways and I am

hopeful for that in the future.

Actually I read that Central World's insurance will not cover the fire. The insurance companies are saying it's terrorism, so they will not cover the losses.

Looks like he might get an extended stay here courtesy the Thai government! Not going to be able to get through immigration now. Frankly, he'll be lucky if the police catch him. If the locals get him first, he'll be torn to pieces.

He probably mistook Central World for a soccer match.

I think it was on the channel 13 news or the BBC online that I saw a comment that said

when Central World was under construction, the project's name was the "World Trade Center."

After 9/11/01 they changed the name to Central World.

I agree. That's what I was thinking.

"Acts of God, Acts of War, etc."

always give insurance companies

an out, by contract & by law.

(They're less forgiving concerning acts of war.)

Acts of God (like the Tsunami and flood damage)

are sometimes covered, but seldom are acts of war.

Actually, I read another article with the head of the company that owns Central World and he said they had an $11 million US policy insuring them against riots and terrorism and that the whole place

was fully insured. The back part could be up and running within 6 months as it was not as badly damaged but the front part will take longer. So it seems they are fully insured. I might have read

that on Reuters Live News...can't remember cause I was checking other sites for news coverage the other day.

You're right it opened in 1990 but it WAS called the World Trade Center at first.

It had nothing to do with it's name while under construction, as I thought the report stated.

I read somewhere else that their insurance didn't cover it. Wish I could remember where.

Then I stand corrected; maybe it was a journalist's attempt at creativity,

or maybe they changed the name after 9/11. Can any Thai members

confirm or deny this?

I'm not surprised it's on CPB land. "The King Never Smiles" discussed at length the history of the CPB and it's role as a landlord.

They promote the image of a benevolent monarch by saying it's rents are cheap...i.e. promoting the welfare/development of the country.

Just started reading it myself a couple days ago. It sounds interesting, but the author makes a lot of assertions in the intro and first chapter. I hope he plans to back that up with verifiable facts instead of relying on "I have some insiders whose names I can't reveal". If not, it probably belongs in fiction, as opposed to non-fiction. I also noticed that a few conclusions drawn were based soley on opinion, and could be interpreted in a completely different light by someone else.
