haha

I put my Singapore miles on Continental OnePass as they are partners. I think CO still has the best FF program, and they are my favorite domestic carrier. (No domestics even come close to being competitive on international routes, though.) CO gives standby upgrades and boarding/check-in privileges to all elites.

It's funny, I make gold on CO, even though 80% of my miles come from other airlines.

I'm pretty worried about the United merger, though. United's program sucks, and I think there is a good chance that they will pull OnePass down with them.

It's been about 10 years since I was elite on United, but the red carpet club was good. Delta and United had free booze at the elite lounge. AA charges for drinks.

Problem with Continental is you only have 2 options. Newark or Houston.

I love American Airlines....but mainly because I am Platinum now and they put me in business class when I fly to Thailand and that's where all my miles are. Plus we have a direct nonstop flight from the airport here, which is about 10 mins from my house, to London Heathrow courtesy of the Glaxo drug company who contracts with AA to keep the flight going for their employees. It's kind of nice when you want to head over to the UK.

Can't stand the food on JAL though when I go from Tokyo to BKK but some of the Japanese and Thai flight attendants are quite nice and cute!! :P

But the immigration at the AA terminal in Dallas is so nice to go through. Never gone through LAX but just looking at the international terminal when I visit my parents out there...which I did last week...it looks like it would be a total mess. So I'd avoid it like the plague.

Hey Everyone,

Sorry but another stupid question  Mimi finally sent Packet 3 off on Monday. Will we be notified when they receive Packet 3 or only after they set the interview date? I'm guessing it takes about 3-4 weeks before we find out about interview date? Will they email us or just send Packet 4 via postal mail? Sorry I should know this by now but do not. Thanks,

Mike

The embassy's website says you'll get your interview date by email, that they don't send that by mail. Someone who has gone through that process already can confirm that......seems like a lot of people these days are getting interview dates quickly. My fiancee talked to someone who sent packet 3 on june 10 and got their interview scheduled for july 27

Here's the quote from the website:

When Immigrant Visa (IV) Unit has received all of the necessary documents for visa interview as specified on the instruction package, the applicant is considered "document qualified." The IV Unit can then schedule an interview appointment and notify the applicant of the date and time of visa interview via e-mail address specified by the petitioner and/or applicant. It is; therefore, important that a contact e-mail address is provided to the IV Unit along with the returned documents for visa interview.

Mike, if Mimi put both of your emails on the form when she sent it back they will email both of you with the interview date. That's what I did and we both got the emails. Not sure how fast you will get a date. I

have a friend in Calif that his girl sent in P3 a few weeks ago and he has not heard about the date yet. Good luck.

Bleh! Forget IAH and LAX. Book a flight from BKK to NRT to DFW. Spend a few days enjoying Dallas then drive on down to Houston taking the super scenic route through Austin and the Hill Country. If she's coming soon, stop in Fredericksburg and pick peaches and veggies. Stop on by SA and come visit Husby and me. And then you can return to Houston. Remember, Texas is bigger than Thailand. I'm sure she showed you Thailand, now it's your turn.

All fun aside, I think entering through DFW would be better than entering through LAX or SFO. I don't know about passing through as a non-citizen, but I definitely enjoyed DFW more than LAX.

My wife went through SFO on her own when she came back in April. Sounded like it was easy, except they kept asking her about China. The CBP guy finally looked at her passport and laughed and said oops you're from Thailand.

About getting notified as to the date of your appointment, it is somewhat hit and miss. Some of the ladies from usvisa4thai report it is best to keep checking the Embassy's web site where the appointment list is posted.

1) Here is the link to the web page which contains the link to the appointment list in case that appointment list link keeps changing

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas/scheduled-appointments.html

2) Here is the current link to the list of scheduled appointments. Keep checking the current list (maybe form link1 above) for your BNK number.

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/ivschedule060210.pdf

This link will change since it has the posting date in it. So use the link in number 1 above.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info everyone. I see that they haven't updated this list since June 10th (the link states June 2nd but the spreadsheet has a date of June 10th), so my guess is that they only update their appointment spreadsheet once a month or so. That explains why it takes so long for people to get their interview date info. Mimi sent Packet 3 on the 28th so I may have to wait until the first of August before I see our date in the spreadsheet. I do hope they email us before then (they already have both our email addresses on file).

Mike

I don't know where I saw June 10th, looking at the spreadsheet again it also says June 2nd. This indicates they only update it the first of the month and since my Packet 3 will probably get there right around the 1st or 2nd I'll probably miss the cutoff :(
