I-864 vs I-134? What is the difference?

Just curious why there are two types? I'm doing the K1 thing so I assume I'm to use I-134?

When it comes time for your interview the consulate will tell you which form to use. The financial requirements are slightly different between the I-134 which most (not all) consulates use and the I-864 which is used for AOS once you are married.

The I-134 if requested by the consulate, will be the one you will be asked for, for a K visa. If used, it is done so with other documentation so as a conof can determine if an applicant will or wont become a public charge.

The I-864 is for those that will apply for an immigrant visa and for those that will do adjustment of status in the US.

So if I'm doing the K1 visa there is no possible way I would be required to submit the I-864 since that is only used for AOS application which hasn't happend yet correct?

Yes, it is possible that the embassy you are going through will want an I-864 as opposed to a I-134. You have to check with your individual embassy.

The Moscow consulate, for example, has done I-134's in the past, and that is what it says on it's website. The package from the embassy my fiancee recieves requested a I-864. Don't rely on anything else except for what your embassy tells you. Call them, or wait for your package 3 to arrive.

K1 Visa Process long ago and far away...

02/09/06 - NOA1 date

12/17/06 - Married!

AOS Process a fading memory...

01/31/07 - Mailed AOS/EAD package for Olga and Anya

06/01/07 - Green card arrived in mail

Removing Conditions

03/02/09 - Mailed I-751 package (CSC)

03/06/09 - Check cashed

03/10/09 - Recieved Olga's NOA1

03/28/09 - Olga did biometrics

05/11/09 - Anya recieved NOA1 (took a call to USCIS to take care of it, oddly, they were helpful)

According to the website of the US embassy in Manila, you'll need I-134.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

Thats what I thought too but was just wondering if anyone who did the K1 through manila ever had to use the other form by any chance?

Manila requires the I-134 and will not ask for the I-864.

You will have to complete the I-864 when you apply for Adjustment of Status.
