I did not mean to imply that only she can call. I've never called and up to now have not read about another member here calling. I'm not to sure about this situation.

Looks like an American number but its a number in Bogota.

57 = country code

1 = city code

The embassy goes by their book. Most likely they will tell you to call back. However, it shouldnt hurt trying on Wednesday. Have Paola explain to them that she never received packet 3 and that she wants to be sure that she will receive the appt. letter prior to the interview.

Does Paola have any family in Bogota? She can designate a family member to pick it up for her....with written authorization.

Lucho, she does not know anyone in Bogota. Are you saying that she will need to make the call? Not me? The number on the embassy site appears loke a US number. I am assuming it is not, correct?

The people will speak english on the embassy number that costs $16 or whatever it is now, however, the only thing they do is tell you if the package 4 letter was sent and arrange for another one if you are a week out from your visa appt. They won't answer anything else. They will also speak english on the wednesday's only number, but you will have to be very diligent and just keep pressing redial until you get through. It could take 10 min to get through, it could take an hour. The wednesday number will be more helpful because they will have some advice for you. You have plenty of time, wait til wednesday and call the number yourself. You want to know yourself what they say rather than have her do it and translate and you still be worried that you didn't get it all (and then have to call again the next week anyway). Call them wednesday. it's not sweat.

If all else fails. Make an appt. to pick it up the day before. Also have them mail it out to the address where you and your fiance will be staying at in Bogota. And make arrangements with the hotel or the landlord of the apt to hold that packet for you until you arrive in Bogota. I'm sure they will do this for you.

Ok, I have a question. I am pretty much 100% positive that Paola will not receive Packet 4 in the mail. The do not have a post office in Buenaventra evidently. When Pkt 3 was sent to her it was returned to the embassy. There is no reason to assume any different with Pkt 4. I read on the embassy site to call on Wed between 2pm and 4pm for info on the visa. Is that the only number to call? Can I call the number that costs $16.00 to request it be picked up in person? It also says to wait untill one week before the appointment to call. That is way to close for me. Can, or should I call now? Or will they just tell me call back when the time is closer?

Her med exam is on Wed. Aug. the 15th, the interview on Fri. the 17th. Having her pick up the invitation letter on Thur. the 16th may conflict with getting her papers from the doctor.

Can I make this call or will they want her to call? If they only speak spanish, I will not be able to understand. Thanks.

I got nervous about Lorena receiving her packets also. The service in Florencia is poor, like Buenaventura. I called the $16 number and spoke to a Colombian (who spoke adequate English). He told me to allow at least two weeks for the mail to work, and then call back if she had not received the packet - he did not say to wait until one week before the interview, however. As luck had it, Lorena DID receive all packets. It just took a lot of time. If you feel it would help, or at least ease your mind, I would recommend calling.

parkpapa is right. The mail system sucks outside of Bogota. Look what happened to us. It took Wendy about 2 weeks to receive packet 3 and she lives in Barranquilla which is a big city.

Thanks folks. I will call myself and maybe have Paola call. I just bought the sirline tickets. WOW!!!!!! The flights were all full, it took almost 2 hours with a travel agent to get me there and her back with me. On top of that is was way expensive.

That is a good Idea to have the packet sent to the hotel/aprtment we are staying at. I am sure they will not mind. Then we would know we had it for sure. Thanks.

Mononoke................Your right, I am 99.9% sure she will not recieve it. She has never gotten a peice of mail in her life. When I asked her if there was a office in her city that recieved mail, she said, no se. LOL. It blows me away that in a country that does not have a mail system they do not send the packets by a courier. Oh well, it is what it is.

What number do you call to make the appointment to pick up the letter of invitation? The same Wednesday only number?
