Interesting discussion folks, really.

In my honest opinion, one can only digest so much per 100 pages that are posted in any given forum. Luckily, at this point we haven't hit 80... yet-

Packet instructions don't tend to leave THAT much room for interpretation. Just stick to the basics, then surpass them a little with evidence only where it says so. Cover letters are not required but definitely recommended to get points across. Be mindful of using good, clear language. Lawyers in my honest opinion, are not necessary for any of this process unless one has a complicated immigration case ahead of them.

One should try to relax a little before jumping to conclusions... lets all remember that while we are all here to help each other out, and even though the answers to a great many repeated questions are a few pages away or less, there is a certain mass-mentality that can effect us all and this tends to opaque a lot of the answers out there.

Buck, working a lot of hours a day is something to contemplate, and even though I am no marriage counselor by any means, think about your new wife with you in the states and the amount of time you dedicate to her in that kind of situation. Hopefully if you must work so much, take her along if its an option. But thats a bit far in the process... for the time being, most of the paperwork can be completed in less than an hour with a clear, relaxed mind.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Y Charlie voy a seguir tu consejo.

Suerte

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Nydiasam.

I just want to add that I've had no problems with the paper work by following all the discussions here. We are ready for our interview with everything completed and medical scheduled. My question to anyone is ... we will have to miss our scheduled interview, has someone been through this before and what is the embassy's reaction?? I plan on sending a fax to the embassy explaining the situation and hope for a reschedule. Marcela's grandmother who is 80+ is sick. She is leaving to her grandmother's pueblo today.

Of course, each office seems to do things a little differently. However, my wife's AOS interview was supposed to be June 28. However, she is in Colombia as her mother was supposed to have major surgery. I wrote the field office (per instructions of the USCIS 800 number) to request the change of appointment date. I sent the first letter in April and then another follow up in May. No response. So I decided to attend the appointment myself, just to make sure that it would be re-scheduled. One hour drive each way....just to hear the guy tell me that he got our nice letters and will re-schedule. Of course, he did not say when. So, based on that, I suspect they WILL re-schedule you....the question is how long you will have to wait.

Good luck. Glad you were able to follow everything on the thread. I always thought it was doable. But some seem to disagree. Depends on the person and the level of organization, I guess.

Doubt it. Same old, same old in Colombia. Last year when I was there, the U.S. embassy was advising gringos to stay away from malls and places like Zona Rosa at one point. They later rescinded the warning. Don't worry about it.
