Hey Diana, (or anyone else)

Can you explain the 2 part vaccination thing? I keep thinking the worst on this since I do not understand it. I read a post that someone got denied because they missed the second part and naturally it got my nerves going. jeje

Thanks!

Your fiancée needs to call the doctors to confirm the information because it might have changed. Until recently both doctors were not accepting vaccinations that were administered more than 8 days before the medical. The beneficiary then had the option of getting them somewhere else no more than 8 days before the medical or get them at the office the same day.

K visas DO need the vaccinations to enter the US or the doctor will not approve the medical exam. So she needs to get them before her interview.

Diana

Hello, Diana,

Thank you for your reply.

However, this just doesn't sound right! There are a lot of these vaccinations (11 or some such number, I heard) and doing them all in one day or even several days may be hazardous for the health of the patient. An immunization shot is not like drinking a glass of water but carries non-negligible risk of complications (including grave ones). So:

1. How many vaccinations do we really talk about (for a young woman)?

2. What about negative effects? Have you heard of any?

As far as vaccinations not being required for K-visas, I think I do have a point. I read in the NOLA book and other resources that K-visas themselves do NOT require vaccinations. They are only necessary for green card applications. Here's something from the USCIS website, availble if you do a search:

While some panel physicians may elect to indicate the vaccinations already received on the vaccination supplement, consular officers will not refuse the K or V visa and CBP officers will not refuse admission to a K or V nonimmigrant, solely because all of the vaccination requirements have not been met. When the panel physician's report indicates that the applicant lacks certain required vaccines, consular officers will attach a single-page addendum to Form DS-2053 (Formerly Form OF-157), Medical Examination for Immigrant or Refugee Applicant , and the accompanying worksheets, advising the applicant of the need to comply with the vaccination requirements upon the application for adjustment of status in the United States.

The way I read this is that my fiance can tell the doc that she'll worry about the shots when she gets to the states. The doc will attach something to the Med results that says that vaccination requirements have not been fulfilled. But if the rest of the exam results say she meets the requirements, the visa cannot be denied on that basis alone.

Obviously, I don't want to play games with the consulate that can result in several months of delays. On the other hand, pumping someone with 11 vaccines in one day sounds like a rather dangerous thing to do!

Bill...

It looks like you have everything that is important in order...the one thing that I would suggest that sounds a little weak is to put those photos that you have printed on paper made into real 4x6's and put them in a small album...I think it is a small detail but it will look better to the C/O. That is one thing that I have noticed with everyone's case that the C/O's focus a little attention on is the photos...more than 28 would be better and include other members of the family (make sure that you can name them!!!!)

Other than that you look just FINE!!!:thumbs::thumbs:

I just got back from Walgreens and bought 4 more passport photos that Yenifer took yesterday. They didn't delete them from the camera thank God because I want to mail the AOS packet tomorrow and she is away visiting Mickey Mouse til Friday. I will just send 6 photos and not have to worry about it.

Scott, correct. 6 foto's. 1-G-325....1-G325A.......2-I-131..............2-I-765 = total of 6. Jennifer will have her finger prints and foto taken again at the Biometerics. The immigration service cannot pass on finger prints or foto's for some unknow reason. This whole process has been finger prints and foto's. LOL>LOL.

waitman,

Until you posted that info about the vaccines I would not have known about it, however even if I had read that before the interview I would not have done anything different. It's your call but I think if you try to avoid what seems now to be the embassy's standard protocol you are asking for trouble. The C/O's have everything in front of them and if they see something they don't like YOUR DONE. They may call something else out if they can't legally hold you back because of the vaccines, but if they want to...they will find something. This is a VERY VERY long trip so you have to consider everthing before you make a decision to fight that one. I hope your journey is a SAFE and SPEEDY one!!!

What are you having notarized? I only notarized the I-134. Did I miss something?

No, I don't think so. I am just being overly cautious. Anything that was of importance, I was just going to notarize. For example Pay Stubs, Insurance Policy etc... Now I am just going to do the I-134. I am totally nervous but I think I am going to send down my originals instead of the copies. (Dear God, make them get there safe.)

Has anyone used Fedex or DHL to Cartagena? If so, what was your experience?

I know Servientrega is popular and people have had good results. We have used Deprisa and got good results, but right now my only options are FedEx or DHL. I was going to go with FedEx, but I think DHL is more established in the area.

Thanks!

(I'm still trying to sort through the vaccinations myself.)

Agentes,

The only thing that needs to be notarized is the I-134. The only original document will be your employer's letter, if you have one. Everything else can be plain photocopies, and this includes paystubs and tax returns.

I'd like to get more understanding of this process, though. So my fiance comes for the medical with a certificate of vaccinations that show that only one is missing. The doc insists that they're all old and suggests that he administers ALL of them right there-- is that still the case or have they changed their ways?

Now what can happen if she just says that this is for a non-immigrant visa and all she needs from him is a medical exam to show that she doesn't have AIDS, is not violently psychotic etc etc? Will he still "approve" the medical exam, minus the vaccinations portion of it? And if my fiancee comes with that to the embassy with HER OWN certificate that she already has the vaccinations, are they still likely to give her trouble?

The reason I'm worried about this is that I'd hate it if she gets sick in an alien and unfriendly city. I realize, the vaccinations will be required for GC but first, there's hope that USCIS will be happy with the certificate she already has and second, she can do it over a period of time and be in a friendly environment.

What was your experience with this, any serious effects? Have you heard of any serious side affects from these vaccinations?

Regards and good luck!

We all have agreed that the vaccinations having to be done at the doctor's place is a way for them to get more money out of people. With that said, your fiancée or you can call the embassy to find out what exactly it is that they need to see. If they say all lab and medical related documents need to be ok'd by their physician, then there's no way out but to get the vaccines.

The other option is having your fiancée take the vaccines in her city a few days before her medical and show the doctor her card. They can't be older than 8 days and they should ok it.

waitman,

First of all...for us it was only necessary for Yenifer to get the vaccines that she did not have on her certificate of vaccinations. I think that was a first because Diana and her husband had a nightmare at Roa's office. Doctors were giving people some BS that if your vaccines were more than 8 days old you would have to do them again. Yenifer had the same doctor as Diana's husband and there was no problem...also the fee was CHEAPER than it was at the red cross...that was also a first!!!

Thank you everyone for all of the help thus far. It's refreshing to know that there are people so friendly and willing to help a stranger. I am so glad I found this site with so many wonderful people.

Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Colombia

Hello there!! I’ve been away for a while but I’m back now putting papers together for the AOS process. I have a couple of questions (silly questions) about the forms; I will appreciate your help if you know the answers...(I posted this on the Club Colombia AOS, maybe I could get some answers here too  )

Here I go!

Should I file with my new name?

Form I-485 Adjust Status

Part I

Current USCIS Status? (K-1Visa??)

Expires on?? Which date should I write? K-1 Visa expiration date (July 2008) or I-94 (April 2008)

Part 3

A.

Were you inspected by a U.S Immigration Officer?

Form I-131 Travel document

Part 3.

Processing information

1 Date of intended departure. Don’t really know when I’m coming back to Colombia

2 Expected length of trip ?????

Part 7

On a separate sheet of paper, please explain how you qualify for an advance parole document and what circumstances warrant the issuance of advance parole. Include copies of any documents you wish you considered. WHAT SHOULD I WRITE HERE

On the instructions said that I must attach a copy of any document issued by USCIS showing my present status. Which document that will be?

Saludos,

Marcela
