Mike & Mystery...

Yes, she received some type of a little fold-open card that shows she has no history of entering/exiting the country. The was received by the local Barranquilla office of DAS after waiting for a few days for it to be completed. However your post (mystery) leads me to believe there is a completely new document that is required!

We already bought the tickets and our interview is on a tuesday, so we are arriving on Sunday...we only had 2.5 weeks notice on the interview!

I am just trying to figure out if what she has is what she needs. According to the packet list, she has the right DAS document but that list says NOTHING about a "Certificado del Migratorio" specifically....

Any thoughts? Open to all experiences and options...trying to contact Vicky now because she has been trying to contact the Embassy all afternoon.

What color is it???

If its green thats the judicial one not the Migratory......although when they gave us the Migratorio one it was in a sealed envelope and they told us NOT to open it.....But that one looked like a just a sheet of paper not a small card like the green judicial one

She did finally get a hold of the Embassy and they told her that the DAS Certificado del Migratorio is optional, and it depends on the case as to whether it is necessary. She said we can get it if we choose, but if my wife has never entered or exited the country before then it will probably not be requested. To be safe, we are paying for the app in a bank today and going to apply for it on monday while in Bogota, but will not have it in time. At least if the DO want it, we can pick it up the day after the Visa Appointment and return to the embassy with it.

Thanks for all the input!

Just want to make sure none of the new people get confused....because apparently some of the requirements are different for the CR-1/IR-1 vs. K-1 vs. K-3 visa interview. A post above indicated that the DAS report on entries and exits was OPTIONAL for the CR-1/IR-1 interview. However, packet 4 for K-1 and K-3 petitioners now clearly indicates that the report is required.

So, if you are pursuing a K-1 or K-3, you better be sure to get the DAS report.

Thanks Mike for the clarification. I keep sending Francisco back and forth to DAS! Go, no, go, no. LOL.

I would like to know if anyone had to have their DAS letters apostilled. Francisco was told today at the DAS office in Armenia that his judicial DAS needs to get an apostille in Bogota. Is this accurate?

And welcome lucho562! I'm new to the Club too. I just got my NOA2 January 17.

I do not know for sure....but certainly that would explain why it takes so long if you request it out side of Bogota (estimates on the Board have started at three weeks vs. only 3 days if requested in Bogota). So, I would say this is probably the explanation for why it is so much quicker to get in Bogota....because the DAS offices in other cities have to send it to Bogota to get certified.

Based on what you have provided, it looks like you are heading for the CR-1/IR-1 route. That said, I advise you to post on the "CR-1/IR-1 Colombia Club" thread that is also in this forum. Most of the folks on this thread are pursuing K-1s and K-3s.

Good luck.

HOLA..........................

Bad news= I just came back from Colombia today. I was visiting my my wife..

Good News = I called the US Embassy. They told me that our interview is on Thursday. Feb 15, 2007. I told them that we had not received no letter or Packet 4. The lady on the phone said she would send it to my address in the USA.

I hopefully be joining my wife at the interview but the airline tickets round trip MIA -BOG are at $781.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell???? I do not know why the airline tickets have gotten so expensive these days....

Any advice from the group???

The reason it is so expensive is because the dates are so close. My usual ticket from Miami to Bogota is about $420. I checked the airlines about a week before the flight (because I was worried about my frequent flier ticket on Avianca being honored) and the cost was over $800.

Have you checked every airline that flies to Bogota - Avianca, American, Copa, LAN? Do you have enough frequent flier miles to use? Is it any cheaper if you took Avianca through Medellin or Cali or Cartagena?

That's about all I can think of.....

Hi Yadira's Man,

I used a site called kayak.com to book my upcoming trip. You don't book your flight through kayak; it just searches all the travel search engines (like expedia and orbitz as well as the airlines). See if you can't find a better result through that. Good luck!

Sidestep.com is a similar website. Once you find the best price on Kayak or Sidestep, go directly to the airline's web site and there's a good chance you'll find it for less.

YES, I finally have some GOOD advice today!!!!

If you are looking to beat that price, use American Airlines - they fly CHEAP from MIA to BOG. Also, try to fly out on a Tues or Wed and return on a Sunday or Monday. I just looked up a flight for you - MIA to BOG and back - arriving on 2/13 and returning on 2/18 and the total ticket cost is $327.00 plus taxes.

I always fly AA when I can...,

Timeline

Regarding airlines....typically, American Airlines has been more expensive that Avianca. However, part of that could be explained by AA including the departure tax in the price, while Avianca did not. More recently, I noticed that AA has been matching the typical price of Avianca.

No, we did not take our step-daughter to the interview, as she is on 9 years old and it is not required (or even recommended) by the embassy. However, her name was on the "cita" as the K-4 beneficiary. I cannot recall the age cut-off, but you may want to check the embassy web site.

Mike

PS - for those with underage kids....the parent should sign the DS-156 for the child, but sign the child's name, not the parent's name.
