I'm getting ready to apply for citizenship, and for what I've read, I must bring to the interview all the passports I've had (old and current). However, it seems that I've lost/misplaced my old passport. What should I do when it comes to filling out the form in regards to trips outside of the US, and what do I do when the ask me for the old passport at the interview? Has anybody had this problem before?

did you travel while being a LPR on the old passports? Another way of asking this question, do you have any entry/exit stamps in them?

If not, then you don't need to worry about it.

They only look at the old passports to verify the US entry/exit stamps.

Not sure what you can do if you have some stamps on them and they ask for the passports during your interview...

Call USCIS or NVC and ask them about it, they should be able to help you in some way or guide you in the right direction

Your question is too far general in nature, can assume you are 90 years old, got your conditional green card when you married a USC when you were 87 can talking about a passport you lost when you were four years old.

For marriage only need passports that covered the last three years, of if not applying under marriage, for the last five years.

While you needed a foreign passport to come here and even a visa in some cases, there is no law that you have to renew it. In the case of my step daughter, her passport expired six months after she got here. Her biological father refused to sign for her but at the same time b!tched at me for not letting go down and visit him if you can figure that out, I can't. Without a valid foreign passport, she could not travel, but is here legally with her green card.

Only your trips outside of the country greater than 24 hours have to be reported, Ironically as much as a stinker my wife's IO was about everything else, she didn't want verifications of visiting her mom for a week, then two weeks. She had her card for two years and nine months, so we only made two trips. I never bothered to memorize how long you can stay out of the country as a LPR, because we were no where near that number. Isn't it like a year of something?

After my wife received her USC, hit her that she could no longer travel until she got her US passport.

Our I-751 was stressful, her passport was about to expire at the same time as her two year card. I didn't know about the I-94 with two photos to get another extension, just new about the I-551 that has to be in a valid foreign passport. It was with great effort we got her foreign passport renewed as there are only three such consulates in the entire USA. But when we got home late that night, their ten year cards were in our mailbox so was a wasted trip for us. And that was within three weeks of her two year card plus the one year extension expiring. Actually, you can be a condition resident for three years. We already applied for USC a couple of months beforehand.

Thing is, how are you suppose to know this stuff, not exactly like they tell you, you have to search hard to stay legal.

If I learned one thing in life, it's that you can only give what you have. For that very reason, you tell them the truth, show 'em your current passport, state your travel history to the best of your ability, and everybody's going to be happy.

No doubts, hundreds of others very in a similar situation as you are. They are all USCs today, unrecognizable from those who have never lost an old passport.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
