I was under the impression that this is now done to every LPR whenever they enter the USA. When the Green Card is scanned in the computer, the biometrics data come up. When doing the fingerprinting, the computer compares the prints with those in the resident's file. Same with the photo. It's not really a photo, it's a face recognition comparison. For that very reason passports worldwide have such extreme standards in regard to photo requirements. What they want to avoid is that somebody or some buddy uses another person's Green Card in order to enter the US of A.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

So if the computer can't match up your data they take you in for fingerprinting?

It definitely doesn't happen to every LPR that reenters the US. There are many of us who have never experienced this.

I'm seriously considering just flying into Toronto from now on. The flights are more than double in price, but it's direct and you don't have to deal with the land crossing CBP. If they're going to harass me, I'd rather it be done right in the airport at one place then have to drive over to secondary screening and then miss my flight in Buffalo because it takes 2 hours for them to figure out who is doing what. I guess I'm lucky I haven't had to deal with this... Yet.

I have not had a single issue ...yet...crossing at the Peace Bridge, so I hope it stays that way.

I hear you Huggles....but I still prefer the ease of the Buffalo airport than dealing with Toronto :)

Same here OBX, I really hate Toronto. Buffalo is much quicker and easier to navigate. I always cross at the Peace Bridge, so maybe they are a little more lenient with this new guideline. I've actually never had a single problem when crossing there, so maybe I shouldn't get angry and discouraged just yet!

What border crossing do you use Sly?

I haven't had this happen yet. I use the Lewiston-Queenston bridge most of the time but have also used the Rainbow bridge.

I cross in Cornwall, Ont. I telecommute to the office in Montreal on a weekly basis but I am only there for 2 days. I work the other 3 days at home. I cant imagine if I had to do this daily. I find it all very odd ..... is the green card that insecure?

We also have the odd road block in our region where they check people driving through. It makes it feel like a police state sometimes. Once my wife and I were out driving to do some shopping and they asked me where we were going. Lol, I had a brain fart and my wife had to answer their stupid question. That brain fart could have raised some suspensions eh. :P

I think "Freedom" has become an illusion.

I cross every day and have only been "authenticated" once late last year. Just usually get my random Nexus pass check every few months.

if i recall, there was a big issue at the border in cornwall that also caused our CDN border guards to start carrying weapons. So i would imagine there is heightened security, that is probably why this happend. I can't find the article atm but i think it had to do with the indian reserve that is there as well.

k found a link explaining it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornwall_Island_%28Ontario%29

bascially that bridge was closed opened and closed again and we had to make a temp border crossing. from may til september of last year this happend. My sister a couple months ago crossed to visit the usa and had issues crosssing as well.

unless of course your using the other crossing...iirc there are two in cornwall.
