When my fiance, John, entered the US last week, and attempted to import his car, it was realized at that time that Acura had given him a letter that states that his car complies with all Canadian requirements, NOT American requirements. ugh! At that time, he thought for sure that he was going to be denied entry, however he was given a "multiple entry K-1"/I-94 and told that once he receives the right letter from Acura, to go to Port Huron and import his car (within the time frame that the state of Michigan requires ones car to be registered). One of the officers kept telling John how lucky he was because they very rarely give out multiple entries. Has anyone ever heard of this or have you received one?

I've always heard that K1 Visa it is good for only one entry into the United States, unlike K3/K4 is a multiple entry visa, and you may leave the United States and return using the same visa

Um, yep, us as well, however his I-94 in his passport specifically says "MULTIPLE ENTRY" and he was told that it means exactly what it says, and after he asked 6 times, the officer started to get frustrated with him. I'm wondering if ANY one else has had this experience and received one?

Never heard of it but I'm sure if he uses the same POE, it shouldn't be any problem.

The K-1 Visa is a ONE TIME entry visa. At POE it is cancelled and REPLACED with a I-94. Your husband was given a multiple entry I-94.

Now this being true DOES NOT mean that he will be allowed to use it as that. Since he has not adjusted his status yet, the CBP at the POE could deny him to use it again and then he would be stuck outside the border with no way to re-enter and you would have to do the visa process all over again. Be very careful.

I would have him procure the proper documents and then arrange to have them sent to someone else who can bring his car over the border; I would be very leery about doing it myself without an AP or GC in hand.

I was accidentally given a multiple entry I-94 at my PoE, but the officer caught his error, took it back, called the older guy over and had him print me out a single entry I-94.

I wouldn't trust that multiple entry I-94. It could work, particularly at the same PoE, but it could complicate things substantially, and the worst case scenario - flat out refusal - is too serious for me to be able to advise using it.

On the bright side, he should almost certainly be able to just go to a PoE and import his car, even well after entry, without having to leave the US. Just pull up into the customer parking on the US side and go inside and talk to someone at the counter.

He shouldn't even have to return to the same Land PoE - any Deferred Inspection unit should also be able to do the car importation paperwork. Once he has the compliance letters, importing is just one reasonably easy form. He'll need to have the compliance letters, proof of ownership, and know (at least roughly, lowball it a little if you're not sure - it gets used as the basis for an import tax at state DMV registration/titling in some states) the Blue Book value for the car.

DON'T PANIC

Sorry, I mis-spoke a bit ... yes, it is a multiple entry 1-94, not a multiple entry K-1. my bad. Not planning to do another 2500+ mile trip to go back to the same POE to import the car.

mine says multiple entry as well, however, i personally wouldn't chance it.

I agree, and don't want to chance it. Would be the worst thing to happen, especially on our honeymoon! I know that the American side of Niagara Falls is not as pretty as the Canadian side, but it will be best to at least be TOGETHER during our honeymoon! :)

Exactly. I did not import my vehicle until two months after coming to the US. I had the car manufacturer email me a compliance letter then headed over to the local Toledo CBP office. Check out these locations in Michigan Michigan US Customs and Border Protection
