Hello everybody,

I would like to ask a question about my marriage with an American woman.

My story: I am Italian and got married in March 2010 in Las Vegas with my American fiancè. I live in Italy and she lives in California (she never lived in Italy and I never lived in USA). Today we sent all the paperwork to the USICS to get my CR-1 VISA. I haven't already registered our wedding in Italy.

Therefore my question is the following: if I don't register our wedding in Italy, can I get the CR-1 VISA as well? In other words, is for USCIS important that I register or not our wedding in Italy to give me the CR-1 VISA? (But I will do it in the future).

Many thanks for your help

As long as you are legally married that will be recognized by USCIS; I am assuming you sent in your marriage certificate with your I-130 petition.

We were married in the US and I returned to Canada to wait out the process. There was no need for me to "register" our marriage in Canada; we were legally married and that was recognized regardless of our residency.

Good luck!

Check with your local consulate. Some countries require you to register marriages, and births abroad. Better to be safe than sorry. Congrats on your marriage, and good luck!

Married is married. US immigration officials will be looking for a legal marriage certificate from the jurisdiction where you married. That's not Italy, right?

Correct, it's Clark County, Nevada. Therefore everything is going on in the right way :-)

Thanks a lot!
