My husband and I had our AOS interview today and really expected to come out of the interview with the approval notice, but instead, the officer said that she'll have to review all the information she took down one more time and will get back to us with a decision within a week.

Based on my research on VJ, almost all couples at the San Francisco USCIS office got their approval on that same day. So now we're a bit worried and wonder if anyone else had that experience?

The interview itself wasn't unusual or anything. The officer wasn't overly friendly or unfriendly. Just very formal and didn't get into much small talk like other officers do. She asked my husband (petitioner) basic questions on my maiden name, my family, place of residence, my kids, all the standard "No" questions. While doing so, she wrote down all his answers on the corresponding documents in red. Then she asked how we met and what our shorterm goals are. She asked about whether we're planning to have a big wedding... I said maybe later in the fall, but we were happy how special and intimate our civil ceremony turned out and don't have a desire to have a big wedding (especially since this is the 2nd marriage for both of us). She asked him for our home number, which is actually my cell phone, but he didn't know it by heart and said he didn't know because I'm on speed dial on his phone... Neither do I have his phone number memorized, so not sure if that presented a red flag with her. Then she asked for evidence of our relationship. She took some pictures, a bank statement, letter membership to the museum and a letter from my parents confirming that we are currently living with them (hence no lease agreement nor utility bills with both our names).

The last questions was "And you're still happily married as of today, correct?" Of course we said YES with a big smile... Finally she then said that she'll have to review our case and will send her decision in the mail by next week. I was like "Whaaat?" But we were both so nervous and didn't bother to ask why she wasn't approving it today.

Has anyone had a similar experience? We hate this feeling of not knowing....

Thanks,

Silvia

We had our interview last May 12 and it was less than 15 mins. Our IO told us that she's going to review our papers and let us know if she needs anything. She didnt tell us if we are approved but she cancelled my visa and she took my I-94. Last friday, May 14 I checked my status online and they changed it to Document Production. So i guess we are approved.

Good luck to u! Just check your status online after 2 days probably you are also approved.

Thanks so much for your reply! It certainly made me feel more at ease a bit. The officer didn't say either whether we're approved or not, just that she'll review the case and if she needs anything, she'll let us know. Will check online in two days as you suggested. THANK YOU!

Follow up:

I just checked the status online and it states "DOCUMENT PRODUCTION"!!! I guess we were worried for nothing and can assume that we'll have the greencard in our hands within a week or two. WHEW!!! Thank you Lord, and thank you VJ!
